If you are a benefits-eligible employee and there is any possibility that you will use tuition remission during the 2012-13 academic year (fall, spring and/or summer semesters), whether for yourself, a spouse, and/or dependent(s), a Tuition Remission Request Form for each person needs to be submitted no later than Wednesday, Feb. 1.

Please go to the Employee Benefits, Forms and Resources page for the link to instructions for completing the Tuition Remission Request Form(s) and to the forms themselves. Please note: This year there is a separate form for the adult degree program and the elementary education degree-completion program. Please be sure to read this information before you begin completing a Tuition Remission Request Form.

The Lunar New Year was on Jan. 23. Want to know how some of the Asian countries celebrate their new year? Come to the Cap and Gown Room on Thursday, Jan. 26, anytime between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. to enjoy the atmosphere of Lunar New Year.

This event, sponsored by International Student Services, is being hosted to celebrate diversity and the richness of this cultural event. Different booths of cultural elements in Lunar New Year will be presented. You will get the chance to learn how to make dumpling and spring rolls in addition to many other fun and interesting activities.

My name is Sandra Conlon and I am house managing for the upcoming show on campus, She Loves Me. I am in need of some volunteers to help usher for the show. Ushers have free admission to see the play, and it is a great way to volunteer on campus! The performance dates are listed below. I would love to have five ushers for each performance, the duties of the ushers would be to either run the ticket table as a box office assistant or take tickets, greet and direct patrons.

The dates are as follows:

• Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
• Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
• Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m.
• Feb. 5 at 2 p.m.

Save the date! The George Fox University Department of Biology and Chemistry invites you to join us for our second annual Dalton Lecture Series event, “God of Antimatter,” featuring Dr. Gerald Gabrielse, Harvard’s Leverett Professor of Physics, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20.

Dr. Gabrielse has won Harvard’s Levenson Prize for exceptional teaching and the Ledlie Prize for exceptional research. He is currently the chair of the Division of Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics of the American Physical Society.

Dr. Gabrielse will address questions such as “What role does faith have in a scientist’s life?” and “Is there more to our world than science can say?”

The Office of Financial Affairs is updating its process for employee expense reimbursements. As you know, employee expense reimbursements have always been by check, but starting Feb. 6 employees will now have the option of receiving reimbursements via direct deposit or by paper check.

The new guidelines are as follows:

Effective Feb. 6

• For those who sign up for direct deposit: If your Expense Reimbursement Form is received in the Office of Financial Affairs by Monday, your deposit will be processed on Thursday of that week. If it’s received after Monday, it will be processed on Thursday of the following week. Please note that payment may take up to 48 hours to appear in your account.

Effective March 1

• For those who choose to have reimbursements processed as a check: Checks will be cut only on the first Monday of each month. If your Expense Reimbursement Form arrives in the Office of Financial Affairs by 5 p.m. on the 20th of the month, your payment will be included in the next check run. If your paperwork arrives after the 20th of the month, it will not be processed until the following month’s check run. (Example: If your paperwork arrives before Feb. 20, the check will be cut on the first Monday in March. If your paperwork arrives after Feb. 20, your check will be cut on the first Monday of April.)

If you want your reimbursements to be set up as direct deposit you’ll need to download, complete and submit the authorization form to the financial affairs office. The form can be found on the FAO’s Common Forms webpage.

Little Bruins is back!

Come to the informational meeting to discover how you can make a huge impact in a child’s life! We’ll be meeting on Monday, Jan. 23, at 8:30 p.m. in EHS 102. 

Little Bruins is similar to a Big Brother/Big Sister program. You will spend about an hour a week with a child at a local elementary or middle school. The children we are reaching are struggling in different areas of their lives and they need to feel valued and worthy of greatness.

At 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, George Fox will host the Oregon Symphony in Bauman Auditorium for its 25th appearance in Newberg. The concert is free to George Fox employees – a gift from George Fox board member Ken Austin and his wife, Joan, founders of A-dec.

The Austins have provided the university with a limited number of tickets for its employees. These tickets are separate from those to be issued by the Newberg Area Chamber of Commerce to the general public. George Fox employees (halftime and over) may pick up their tickets – limit two per employee – on a first-come, first-served basis starting Monday, Jan. 23, at 9 a.m. at the first-floor Information Center in the Stevens Center.

Phone reservations will not be taken except for employees at the Portland and Salem centers.

On Friday, Jan. 27, beginning at 9 a.m., any remaining tickets (again, a limit of two per person) will be available – also on a first-come, first-served basis – to those who sign up on a waiting list. If you find you will not be able to attend the concert, please return your tickets for another employee to use.

What qualifies, you might ask? Clean, fashionable clothing that is winter/spring appropriate and in good condition. Right now, we’re taking:

• Men’s shirts, jackets, sweaters, pants, hats and scarves
• Women’s shirts, jackets, sweaters, pants, hats and scarves plus dresses and skirts (in medium/large preferably)
