All students who have parents or grandparents who are George Fox alumni are invited to apply for the Alumni Scholarship. Scholarships are awarded in the amounts of $1,000 and $2,000.

Applications must be turned in at the Pennington House no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15.

This Sunday, Feb. 12, the film crew for the student film Push (directed by Mason Morris) will need extras at Newberg High School anytime between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. There will be a drawing for an iTunes gift card in compensation for the actors’ time.

A Wheaton college professor and former director with an international relief organization will speak on campus and engage the university community in a conversation on the “holistic mission of God” at the school’s Spring Theological Conference Monday through Wednesday, Feb. 13-15.

Evvy Campbell, an associate professor of intercultural studies emerita at Wheaton, will speak in chapel on Monday, Feb. 13, and Wednesday, Feb. 15. Both services are scheduled from 10:40 to 11:30 a.m. in Bauman Auditorium. In addition, Campbell will engage with students and other attendees in a conversation from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, in the Cap and Gown Room. The topic of discussion will be “Engaging the Missional God: An Interactive Conversation.”

Many students feel called into professional careers, and often wonder how to live out their faith within that specific calling. Monday evening’s session will allow students and faculty to engage in conversations about how they can participate in God’s work in the midst of those distinct callings. Each speaker will sit with students and share a part of his or her story in small groups, with conversation and discussion following. Students will rotate to hear three of the six speakers. The evening will also include worship, refreshments and prayer.

Speakers include: Brian Doak (Religious Studies), Evvy Campbell (guest speaker), Kris Kays (Psychology), Davida Brown (Chemistry), Nate Peach (Economics) and Marie Palm (Nursing).

Tickets are available for the final She Loves Me winter musical shows, scheduled Thursday through Sunday, Feb. 9-12, in Wood-Mar Auditorium. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. with the exception of Sunday’s performance, scheduled as a 2 p.m. matinee.

Tickets are available at the box office between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and can be claimed by dropping by or calling 503-554-3844. Tickets are also available online at theatre.georgefox.edu. Employees get one complimentary ticket for any performance, and Thursday night is free for students. The box office is now located at the information desk on the first floor of the Stevens Center.

To help raise the last few hundred dollars needed to attend the Region Seven Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Fort Collins, Colo., next week (Feb. 12-18), George Fox theatre students are still selling oil change cards.

Each card is good for one oil, lube and filter, plus a 50-point inspection, at Doran Automotive in Newberg. Each card costs $25 (the same price you would pay with the Bruin Discount Card), has no expiration, and the net proceeds go toward housing and transportation costs for the students.

The exhibit will remain up through March 2. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Michael Meek, who has guided the women’s basketball team to a 21-0 record, was a guest on Ron Callan’s “Northwest Sports Tonight” radio talk show on KPAM AM 860 on Jan. 25. Michael and the Bruins are on track to repeat as Northwest Conference champions and a trip back to the NCAA Division III national tournament.

Ed Higgins’ (English) poem “A Political Parable” was included in an anthology of Occupy-related poems, Liberty’s Vigil, The Occupy Anthology (99 Poets among the 99%), published by FootHills Publishing. Contributors are from 22 states and six countries. Ed was one of only two West Coast poets among the 99 selected contributors.

Ron Mock (Political Science and Peace Studies) was appointed to fill the unexpired Zone 1 position on the Newberg School Board. The position was declared vacant last September when board member Deona Twenge moved out of the district. Ron has lived in the community since 1990 and is interested in helping the school district find creative ways to deliver excellent public education in a time of tight public finances.

Paul Anderson’s (Religious Studies) commentary on John 1-3 was published in The Evangelical Commentary on the Bible (edited by Gary Burge, Baker), and his major essay, “The Origin and Development of the Johannine Egō Eimi Sayings in Cognitive-Critical Perspective,” was published in the Journal for the Study of the Historical Jesus (Vol. 9, pp. 139-206). Also, at the national SBL/AAR meetings in San Francisco, he reviewed Urban Von Wahlde’s three-volume Commentary on the Gospel and Letters of John (Eerdmans) and responded to five papers on “Archaeology and the Fourth Gospel” in the John, Jesus, and History Group. Finally. he also organized two sessions of the Quaker Theological Discussion Group, at which Howard Macy reviewed the Autobiography of Allen Jay. At the QTDG business meeting, Howard was approved to follow Paul as editor of Quaker Religious Thought; Paul concluded his 11 years as editor with the publishing of a double issue (#s 116-117) of QRT in December.
