Join the undergraduate School of Business faculty for an International Business Institute (IBI) information session on Thursday, March 1, from 5 to 6 p.m. in Hoover 210.

Have you ever considered studying business in Asia and Europe during a study-abroad experience? How would you like to visit the international operations of Mars Candy, IKEA, John Deere, Deutsche Bank, the World Trade Organization, the European Union, Nestle, Black and Decker and Shell Oil?

If so, you need to check out George Fox University’s School of Business affiliated International Business Institute (IBI) program. Students earn 12 academic credits taking global business courses while traveling through approximately 13 countries in Europe and Asia for 10 weeks.

Housing selection for the 2012-13 academic year will begin in three weeks, on March 19. Now is the time to be thinking about the following questions:

1. Who do you want to live with? Group sizes can range from 2-6 people. Please refer to the “How to Choose a Roommate” resource on the Housing and Residence Life website.

2. Where do you want to live? The size of your group will determine what housing options are available.

3. Have you paid your $150 housing deposit? To participate in housing selection each student needs to have their housing deposit paid to Student Financial Services by 5 p.m. on March 16. Students who have been asked to live with an RA also need to have this deposit paid to secure their spot in housing.

The general education course “The Physics of Everyday Life” (PHYS 150) is now being offered for this upcoming May term 2012. Prof. Robert Melendy will be teaching this course.

A group of students are filming in Portland this weekend between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, and we need extras to be zombies. We will provide transportation and food.

The student film crew for Push needs extras for its last day of shooting. We have a climactic scene at the end of the film which requires a crowd of teenage-looking people to be there.

What does it mean to be a true neighbor – one who embraces Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s call to join a “beloved community,” a community of welcoming hospitality that confronts poverty, homelessness and racism? This question will be addressed at the university’s 27th annual John Woolman Peacemaking Forum next week.

Leroy Barber, president of Mission Year, a national urban initiative that introduces 18- to 29-year-olds to missional and communal living in city centers for one year of their lives, will speak twice on Monday, Feb. 27: On “Beloved Community” in chapel at 10:40 a.m., and on “Community Transformation” that night at 7:30 p.m. in EHS 102.

Joining Barber will be Chris Lahr, a recruiter and academic director for Mission Year. He will speak on issues related to racial awareness and reconciliation in the Perspectives on Christian Education class from 3:40 to 4:30 p.m. Monday afternoon in Lemmons 15.

In addition, George Fox will participate in a panel discussion, “Where will the leadership come from to end the Korean War and solve the Israeli Palestinian Conflict,” from 2 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 29, at the Buckley Center on the University of Portland campus. Headlining the panel is F.W. de Klerk, the former president of South Africa who, in 1993, was named co-winner (with Nelson Mandela) of the Nobel Peace Prize. He’ll be joined on the panel by university presidents, including George Fox’s Robin Baker, and others. The event will include a Q&A time afterwards.

All university students and personnel are invited to attend the panel for free.
