Professional Preview Day registration is now open!

“Picture Your Future. Now.” is the theme for this year’s PPD! You will be connected with George Fox alumni who are now career professionals in the greater Portland area and get a glimpse into the daily aspects of their line of work, along with learning about their employer.

Empower your career plans by networking with alumni professionals in occupations of interest to you. The event is set for Friday, Nov. 16. Transportation is provided.

Don’t forget to turn out for tonight’s (Tuesday’s) fall faculty lecture, to be presented by Professor of Art Doug Campbell, in Hoover 105.

The event will begin with a 5 p.m. reception and presentation by Richter Scholar students. Then, at 5:30 p.m., Doug will present “Confessions of a Non-Specialist,” in which he will discuss his studio art, exhibit and writing activities. Doug was named recipient of the Undergraduate Faculty Achievement Award for Research and Scholarship in 2012.

Don’t forget the “Seminary Fair Plus” on the Newberg campus today (Tuesday) in the atrium of the Hoover Academic Building. The event is designed for those interested in pursuing religious or professional higher education.

The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Representatives from a variety of seminaries as well as George Fox graduate programs will be available to connect with prospective students who desire to be equipped for ministry or professional education.

It’s election time! Mail Services is an unofficial drop site for all Oregon ballots. Arrangements have been made with the Yamhill County Elections Office for us to offer this service. Out-of-state ballots require postage.

All Oregon ballots:

• Mail Services has a collection box for all Oregon ballots.
• No postage is necessary.
• Be sure your ballot is signed and sealed.
• We collect for any county in Oregon – and no postage is necessary.
• Deadline for this collection site: Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 4:30 p.m.

All out-of-state ballots:

• These must be mailed through the U.S. Mail.
• These do require postage.
• Stop at Mail Services and have a clerk make sure you have enough postage on the ballot. Some are heavier and require extra postage.

On Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. in EHS 102, the Accounting Club will be hosting a Non-Taxing Tax Plan Discussion.

Adam Puckett, a George Fox graduate and tax professional from Delap LLP, will be coming to Fox to explain and compare the differing tax plans of Obama and Romney and how both would affect us. Anyone is welcome and all are encouraged to come to be educated on the presidential candidates!

The session runs from 7 to 8 p.m. and features Paul Marshall, senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, who will speak on the topic “Blasphemy and Free Speech.” The same session is presented from 4:40 to 5:40 p.m.; however, it is recommended that the general public attend the evening session, if possible.

Winter theatre general auditions are coming up! Rhett Luedtke will direct a production of Mrs. Packard by Emily Mann, and we are hosting auditions for the show from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29 (callbacks will be Oct. 30 and 31 from 7 to 10 p.m.). Auditions will take place in Wood-Mar Auditorium.

Bring a 90-second contemporary, dramatic monologue to your audition. Callbacks will involve movement.

The audition sign-up sheet is located in Lemmons on the Theatre Call Board. It is advised to read the play before auditions (it is available as an E-Book in the university’s library).

Career Services is hosting the Seminary Fair Plus on Tuesday, Oct. 23, in the lower lobby of the Hoover Academic Building between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

A variety of seminaries as well as George Fox graduate programs will be on hand to connect with prospective students who desire to be equipped for ministry or higher education through graduate programs. This event is a great opportunity to meet with recruiters to investigate different career choices and seminary opportunities for the future.

Just a reminder that Homecoming and Family Weekend are just around the corner (Oct. 26-28)! We are especially excited about a new event – the Homecoming Coronation & Variety Show scheduled for Friday, Oct. 26, from 8 to 10 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium.

This event will feature entertainment from students, alumni and families and will include the presentation and crowning of the homecoming court. There is also a Barbecue Tailgate Party scheduled for Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. at the Austin Sports Complex, featuring food, games, inflatables and more.

On Tuesday, Nov. 13, the university will host a Cultural Fair – and we’d love to give you the opportunity to share your culture at the big event. On Tuesday, Oct. 23, we will host an informational meeting for those who wish to host a table at the fair that showcases their culture. If you are interested, join us at 6:15 p.m. in the International Center/Cultural House.

The Cultural Fair will feature students from Asia, Europe, Africa and other parts of America sharing something about their own culture. You do not need to go to other countries or places to experience a different culture – just come to the Cultural Fair. You will have a chance to enjoy wonderful displays, learn something new, and of course experience delicious food from all over the world!
