Her most recent position was with Express Employment Professionals as a staffing consultant, where she helped job seekers secure new positions. She looks forward to sharing why job seekers should consider LinkedIn, agencies, and many other alternative job-search strategies for job placement in today’s market!

The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Thursday, March 14 in the Career Services Office (first floor in Stevens).

The Accounting Club will be offering assistance in filing tax returns for the Newberg community that is sponsored by the IRS and AARP. It’s first come, first serve! A sign-up sheet will be available 30 minutes before the sessions. Following are the dates and times of each session, which will be located in Hoover 102 and 103 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the following dates:

•         March 9
•         April 6
•         April 13

Please be aware that we are unable to prepare certain types of complicated returns, including those that involve inventory, depreciation, or rental income. Additionally, we can only do returns for Oregon. But, we can do federal returns for anyone from any state.

We need about 20 extras (10 guys and 10 girls) to be audience members for a comedy club scene in our film “Timothy Truelove’s Date With Destiny.”

If you are interested, it will be this Saturday, March 9, from 12:45 to  6 p.m. in the Media Comm Center. You will need to bring two separate outfits, a business professional outfit and a hipster outfit. We will have lots of snacks and a lunch break.

Tyler Amy joined the university last week as an administrative assistant II for the Center for Peace and Justice and the Center for Global Studies. Tyler comes to George Fox from the Great Lakes region of northwestern Pennsylvania, where he worked the past year and a half as the national coordinator for Renewal: Students Caring for Creation, a student-driven creation care network that serves Christian colleges and universities throughout North America. He will continue serving in that role by bringing the nationally recognized creation care organization to Newberg, finding ways for Renewal to collaborate with the ongoing work of the Center for Peace and Justice and the Center for Global Studies in service of the entire university. Tyler has also served in multiple roles for the Creation Care Study Program – a semester-off-campus partner program of the Center for Global Studies – including living in New Zealand while working as a student life coordinator. He earned a bachelor’s degree in communications (public relations) from Waynesburg University in 2010. He lives in Newberg with his wife, Mary Beth.

Rachel Ryan was hired Monday as a transfer credit specialist IV in the registrar’s office. She worked most recently for State Farm Insurance, for whom she was an executive administrative assistant since May of last year in Salem. Rachel also gained work experience as a merchandising brand team member in apparel for Target (2011-12) in Wilsonville. She earned a mathematics degree from Seattle Pacific University in 2010. Rachel lives in Wilsonville with her husband Andrew, a Spanish teacher at Horizon Christian High School in Tualatin. The couple attends Willamette Christian Church in West Linn.

Sundance Wilson Henry (Student Financial Services, Portland) left the university in February, deciding to stay home with her baby, Joplin.

Alex Martin (Graduate Admissions) left the university last week.

Melanie Mock, Kathy Heininge, Gary Tandy and Ed Higgins (English) attended an international War and Peace As Liberal Arts Conference Feb. 21-23 at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, Calif. Kathy presented a paper titled, “Virginia Woolf, Quaker Pacifist?”; Gary presented a paper titled, “Contemplation, Preparation, and Action: Peace Pilgrim’s Prophetic Witness for our Time”; and Ed presented an illustrated paper, “George Fox and Narratives of Peace and Activism in the Quaker Tapestry.” While at the conference they connected with two former George Fox faculty members, Michael Everest (now a professor of chemistry at Westmont) and Michael Graves, who this year is a visiting professor of communication studies at Westmont.

Mandee Wilmot (Undergraduate Admissions) was named Employee of the Month for February.

Anna (Alumni and Parent Relations) and Josiah (Portland Center Computer Support Specialist) Philipsen welcomed their son, Landon Carter, into the world on Feb. 21. He was two and a half weeks early and was a healthy 6 pounds, 6 ounces and 19 inches long. He was born at Salem General Hospital with the assistance of some George Fox alumni nurses “who were very kind,” says Josiah.

The Portland Center food drive for the Northeast Portland Backpack Lunch Program begins Monday, March 4!

The program serves more than 170 students at four Northeast Portland schools. Oregon hunger statistics are higher than the national average. We can’t solve this problem completely, but our community can make a world of difference to this group of children!

From March 4 through March 15, please bring your food donations to the bins provided in the lobby of the Portland Center. Suggested items include: cans of chili, soup, ravioli in meat sauce, boxes of mac & cheese, small juice boxes (100 percent juice only, no foil containers), individual serving fruit cups, healthy snacks, small packages of dried fruits, oatmeal cups, etc.

Monetary donations can be made at the Information Desk. A $100 donation sponsors a child for weekend meals for the entire school year. Donation checks made out to Fremont United Methodist Church will be tax deductible.

Are you interested in learning and growing with others as we seek to better understand how to relate to God in the midst of suffering, confusion, despair, grief?

You have the opportunity to be part of a small Bible study/spiritual formation group that will explore this topic. We will meet 6 times during the semester, for approximately one hour each time. All materials will be available at no cost. GFU seminary student Sierra Neiman will facilitate the group.
