A class, PSCI 354 Christianity and Politics in the United States, will be offered in spring 2014 and taught by Mark David Hall.

How a company in Vancouver, Wash., and dozens of Christian ministries are serving as an example will be outlined by Pat Johnson, executive director of US Digital Outreach, when she speaks Tuesday, March 26, at the monthly Newberg meeting of the Christian Chamber of Commerce of the Northwest.
The meeting is from 7:30 to 9 a.m. in the Villa Academic Complex. The public is invited to attend free of charge.
At US Digital, a manufacturing firm in Vancouver, a simple effort to provide office space turned into a vibrant and collaborative expression of community outreach. In her role, Johnson coordinates how 35 different ministries are accommodated in the upper floor of the company building. Johnson is also the former national director of World Vision/Love INC, former coordinator for Mission Portland Networking, and founder and director of several nonprofit ministries.

At 5:30 p.m., Terry Huffman will give a presentation in Hoover 105 on his most recent book, entitled American Indian Educators in Reservation Schools. Dr. Huffman is the George Fox University 2012 Graduate Researcher of the Year.

MKTG 485 — Consumer Engagement and Social Networking (Fall ’13)
Marketing is all about connecting … connecting with your customer, connecting with management, connecting with money (budget), and connecting with retail. What is our business? Who are our customers? What does the customer value? Consumer engagement is not a single source of contact but an ongoing “conversation” – developing brand positioning, leveraging user-generated content, and creating a word-of-mouth social audience, all resulting in customer loyalty and influencing behavior. The questions haven’t changed BUT how we tell the story has.

ECON 485 — Environmental Economics (Spring ’14)
Students will explore the relationship between the economy and the environment. The efficient management of natural resources, impacts of pollution, and sustainability issues will all be considered. To account for economic growth concerns the scope of analysis includes both the developed and developing world. The primary objective of the course is to increase students’ understanding of policy-relevant, incentive-based solutions to environmental issues.

The Portland Center South building will be testing our emergency procedures with an emergency evacuation drill early Wednesday evening, March 20. This is a mandatory participation event.
When you hear the alarm sound, please proceed calmly to the nearest exit and proceed to the designated meeting spot directly in line with north, east and west building exits. A safety committee member will inform you when the drill is complete and you are allowed to re-enter the building.

The Housing Selection Form will be open for groups to sign up beginning Monday, March 18Â at noon. The form will be available until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22.
In order to participate in Housing Selection each student needs to have paid a $150 Housing Deposit to Student Financial Services. Students have until Thursday, March 21Â to pay the deposit and still be eligible to participate in the selection process.
To sign up for housing with your group simply login to the form here and then click on the “Housing Group Signup†link on the left side. Only one person from each group needs to complete the on-line Housing Form. There are step-by-step directions in the form that will walk you through the following:
If you do not have a group to sign up with, you can go through the housing process as an individual. In this case we will work on placing you with other groups that have an opening in their housing.

For the past year, we’ve been in conversation with our risk management/insurance company as well as completed a comprehensive review of best practices to reduce risk and liability related to the transportation of students, faculty and staff. You will find the new policy at this link. Please review this very carefully and feel free to contact Plant Services or Brad Lau if you have any questions.
We are not yet ready to implement the personal vehicle aspect of the policy, but are ready to implement the policies and procedures guiding the use of university vehicles.
In order to check out and drive University vehicles (as well as to rent and drive Enterprise vehicles on university business), a student and/or employee driver must be on the “approved driver’s list.” This means that the following has occurred (a minimum of five days before the student or employee plans to pick up and drive a university vehicle):
Once all this has been completed and verified (and assuming all the criteria are met), the employee’s or student’s name will be added to the approved driver’s list and university vehicles can be checked out and driven. This process will need to be completed annually for students and once every three years for employees. Of course, there is much more information in the policy, so please review it carefully.

The new policy is effective immediately, so please take care of this as soon as possible if you plan to drive a university vehicle on university business. When you pick up the vehicle, you will need to show Plant Services your driver’s license and verbally verify that you have current personal automobile insurance (even though university insurance provides coverage for the use of university vehicles).
