The Center for Peace and Justice, the Creation Care Committee and the Center for Global Studies invite the campus community to a showing of the film The Island President tomorrow (Wednesday) at 4 p.m. in Lemmons 8.

The Island President links the struggle for democracy and human rights with the fight to stabilize the climate. Join us as we participate with more than 100 colleges across the country for a nationwide screening of this powerful film and a discussion with the film’s director following.

If you are interested in May Term or summer housing, please submit an application to the Student Life office by Friday, April 26. To be considered for on-campus housing during this time, students need to meet one of the following criteria:

• Enrolled in May Term classes
• Working full time (40 hours per week) for the university as a summer employee
• Participating in research as a summer research scholar

We are still in need of many willing servants to serve as ushers at both the undergraduate and graduate commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 4. Take tickets, hand out programs, direct graduates’ family and friends to their seats, and help make graduation a special event for all involved. All George Fox employees who participate as ushers will be paid $25 per ceremony through payroll.

There are three opportunities for involvement:

Traditional Undergraduate Ceremony

• Time Commitment: 1:30-4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 4
• Location: Wheeler Gymnasium

And …

• Time Commitment: 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 4

LACI students will present the findings of their research on problems or challenges facing the nation today and offer solutions drawn from an integration of their liberal arts background, disciplinary training and Christian perspective. The LACI theme this spring was “State of the Union.”

Student assistant positions in the international summer program are available. Those hired would work Fridays from May 10 through June 28.

• Possesses strong leadership skills
• Must be willing and able to drive George Fox vans

The responsibilities:

• Accompany students and drive school van on Fridays for excursions such as river rafting, tour of Nike headquarters, Willamette jet boats and other activities throughout the state of Oregon
• If qualified, tutor students in BUSN 360, Business Law class

The benefits:

• Opportunity to develop cross-cultural communication skills
• Opportunity to gain experience in leadership opportunities
• Meals during excursions provided and housing for tutors provided
• Stipends of $500 to $1,150 provided, depending on whether tutoring is included

   1. We will re-open your same mailbox in the fall – two weeks before school starts.

The university’s French and cinema programs have joined forces to present the second installment of the Fox French Film Festival this Friday, April 12, in EHS 102.

The festival starts at 7 p.m. with Bienvenue chez les Chtis (“Welcome to the Sticks”), the most successful comedy ever released in France. The film tells the story of Philippe, who has a pleasant life in the south of France and is transferred to the north of France – a region that, according to him, is freezing and where people speak with an unintelligible accent.

The second film of the evening, Indigènes (“Days of Glory”), starts at 9 p.m. Set in World War II, Indigènes follows four North African men who enlist in the French army to liberate that country from Nazi oppression, and to fight French discrimination.

Admission to both films is free, and both are open to the public. Filmgoers will also have the chance to indulge in crêpes, madeleines and other French fare during the intermission between shows.
