You are invited to be part of a Cesar Chavez discussion (“Si se Puede”) today (Wednesday) beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Klages Dining Room. We will be learning how to make homemade tortillas and salsa en molcajete. After that, we will enjoy our food while we discuss the “Si Se Puede” theme. An Assemblies of God ordained minister since the age of 23, Rodriguez serves as senior pastor of New Season Christian Worship Center in Sacramento, Calif., where he resides with his wife of 23 years, Eva, and their three children.

The Bruin Grounds is hosting a benefit concert featuring George Fox alumnus Benjamin Tissell on Saturday, April 6, at 8 p.m. Proceeds will support Ameena Bossier and Bri Phelps, who are going to serve in Swaziland for two months this summer as interns.
The Bruin Grounds will be donating a percentage of what it makes that night from drink purchases. So come enjoy some great music and purchase coffee, milkshakes, smoothies, etc., and support your fellow classmates. Invite your friends!

Cris Banton, Carrie Bohl, Andrea Byerley, Debbie Cash, Nancy Fawver, Joyce Staats, Tim Goodfellow, Brian McLaughlin and James Oshiro attended the annual Higher Education User Group (HEUG) Alliance 2013 conference for Oracle (PeopleSoft) users held in Indianapolis, Ind., March 17-20. The international conference included 3,000-plus attendees and provided more than 400 specialty educational opportunities for each of the user tracks represented. Tim presented the session “Five Simple Tools for Building a Richer User Experience,†while Carrie presented the session “Bundle 25 – New Prospect and Resource Management Options†and a mini-session titled “What’s All This Talk about HEUG Online?â€
Brent Wilson (Computer Science) presented an evening workshop titled “Android App Development Made Easy†and a conference session titled “Android Apps: As Easy As 1-2-3†for the Northwest Council for Computer Education Conference held in Portland Feb. 27 through March 1.
Paul Otto (History) and Lynn Otto were featured speakers at New St. Andrews College in Moscow, Idaho, March 22. Paul spoke on Christianity and the liberal arts, and Lynn read a selection of her poetry.
Three of Ed Higgins’ (English) poems are in the recently published World Haiku Anthology on War, Violence and Human Rights Violation. The anthology contains poems from 435 poets from 48 different countries, written in 35 languages. The project, four years in the making, was initiated and edited by Dimitar Anakiev, a Slovenian and co-founder of the World Haiku Association. The anthology is illustrated by Kuniharu Shimizu, a Japanese artist of Haiga (illustrated haiku). Ed also had a poem, “Thank you SAFEWAY!,†appear in the March 2013 anthology Retail Woes.

The final faculty “Coffee & Conversation” of the spring is titled “Shifting to Online Teaching: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly†and will be held from 10:40 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 8, in Hoover 104.
Online teaching is an increasingly common format, but few professors feel fully at home in this environment. What are the opportunities and challenges? This “Coffee & Conversation” will feature the experiences of Melanie Hulbert, Brent Weaver, John Knox, Debora Herb-Sepich and Colleen Huffman. All of them are teaching summer online courses.
