Why electronic transcripts? They’re fast, secure, and green!

Another great new feature is the opportunity to upload attachments, including completed forms, applications, and letters with your transcript request. These items will be sent along with your official electronic or paper transcript.

The Staff Development Committee is presenting another “Let’s Work Together” lunch, with Security Services as the featured department at noon Monday, Nov. 4, in the Cap and Gown Room. Lunch is available for $3 for staff and $5 for everybody else, or feel free to bring your lunch.

Security officers will be talking about what to do in case of an active shooter scenario on campus, how to stay safe on campus, what security personnel can do to help you, and what you can do to help security. And, did you know that security now offers First Aid/AED/CPR/C-CERT training?

This week, Loren Van Tassel will speak about his life story and his spiritual journey. Loren has spent many years in Hong Kong and China. He currently teaches Introduction to Biblical Knowledge and has been a good friend of international students at George Fox for many years. You are welcome to come, listen, ask questions and be encouraged.

Are you interested in studying abroad?

Every year Fox sends students all over the world to study for a semester. If you have even the slightest interest in studying abroad come to the informational meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, in Hoover 105 to learn about the different programs, the financial model for off-campus study, and to learn how to apply. Studying abroad is a great opportunity to learn in a new environment and culture, and also experience the world.

James Project is partnering with 5Rock Ranch this Saturday, Nov. 2. They need our help splitting wood, deep-cleaning the kitchen, moving around some furniture and cleaning up the lodge.

During the month of November – the month to celebrate what we are thankful for – the Staff Development Committee will be collecting non-food items for Love INC’s non-food pantry. Many in our community are thankful for the items distributed via the non-food pantry the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month.

Please share your thankfulness by bringing one or more of the following items to one of your four drop-off locations during the month:

• Empty laundry jugs, gallon milk or juice jugs to be filled with homemade laundry detergent
• Empty spray bottles to be filled with cleaning solution
• Shampoo, shaving cream, dental floss, conditioner dishwasher soap, liquid hand soap, deodorant, dish soap, paper towels, disposable razors, bar soap, feminine pads, liners and tampons, lotion

President Robin Baker and his wife Ruth invite employees to join the university community at this year’s Christmas concert in Bauman Auditorium on Sunday, Dec. 15.

Our time together will start at 1:30 p.m., when we will serve festive desserts, apple cider and hot chocolate in the Bauman foyer. The concert follows at 2:30 p.m., featuring the university’s Concert Choir, Women’s Chorale, Symphonic Band & Strings. The theme of this year’s concert is “Tell the Good News!”

Concert tickets are now available for pick-up at the Box Office located in Pennington House. Employees (half time and above) are entitled to up to four complimentary tickets for Sunday’s matinee performance or a single ticket for any of the other performances (at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 13-14).

Tickets are not transferable and need to be returned if they will not be used. Tickets must be picked up by Friday, Nov. 8. A limited number of tickets are available.

Box Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Ticket reservations will not be taken over the phone except for those at the Salem and Portland locations.

For students involved with foster care, adoption or guardianship: On the second (Nov. 5) and fourth Tuesday (Nov. 26) of the month there will be a prayer group meeting in the Sutton lobby at 8:30 p.m.

Join us for the Liberal Arts and Critical Issues lecture this Monday, Nov. 4, when Geri Mason, assistant professor of economics at Seattle Pacific University, speaks from 7 to 8 p.m. in Hoover 105. The presentation ties into our theme “State of the World.”

Mason will speak on “Microfinance in China: Challenges and Innovations,” in which she will discuss how, despite unique challenges, micro lending in China has birthed innovative solutions that have increased access to credit and other financial services for the poorest Chinese – and in turn have brightened the future of women in the country.

The same session is presented from 4:40 to 5:40 p.m.; however, it is recommended that the general public attend the evening session, if possible.

Deadlines for the end-of-month (non-student) payroll:

November and December holidays bring many things, including early deadlines for payroll data entry. Normally we must receive check requests and contracts by the 18th of the month to ensure they will be included in the current payroll, but we’ll need everything earlier for the next two months due to shorter processing time. We will include items received by these dates in the month-end payroll:

November: Thursday the 14th
December: Friday the 13th

As a reminder, we always need time sheets and time-off reports (complete and signed, please) by the 10th of every month for regular staff and administrators. Temporary and hourly paid staff should bring time sheets to HR on or before the 15th of the month for these two months.

Vacation: Use it, don’t lose it!

Please take a look at your vacation balance on your October pay statement. It will include accruals through October and vacation taken through September. Remember that you may carry 12 months of your accrual into 2014, so be sure to plan accordingly. Tables for calculating your accrual are on the Payroll Forms webpage, along with instructions for accessing your pay statement in MyGFU.
