Consider adding Technical Writing (WRIT 240) to your spring schedule. Here’s a few reasons why:

• Though the course title may sound intimidating, Technical Writing is an extremely practical course that will help anyone who plans to work in an organization (business, research, education, nonprofit) write more effective reports, letters, memos and emails.
• It will look good on your resume. Surveys tell us that effective writing skills are at the top of employers’ lists in the hiring process.
• The instructor, Gary Tandy, has 15 years’ experience as a full-time and contract technical writer for business and educational organizations.
• While this class may have the most direct application to science, engineering and business majors, liberal arts or humanities majors can also benefit. The major writing project for the class can be tailored to your major or career interest.

The 2014 Summer Serve application deadline is this Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 5 p.m.

Prayerfully consider joining us this May/June for a “SpILgrimage” to meet and love Christ amongst the “least of these” (Matthew 25:40).

Our aim for 2014 Summer Serve really is to learn from and serve alongside our friends and “kingdom”-partners from Word Made Flesh communities in Romania/Moldova and Argentina. We hope to serve WMF as they live their lives in service by committing themselves to long-term friendship, solidarity and love of their neighbors who constitute some of the most vulnerable of the world’s poor.

Note to Juniors: If you are in your third year at Fox and would like to lower the cost of this Summer Serve experience, you can go on Summer Serve in place of Juniors Abroad and then the Summer Serve trip airfare would be covered by Juniors Abroad (i.e. personal fundraising budget would be lowered by approx. 55 percent).

The International Club is hosting a school-wide “League of Legend” tournament. It will start at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, in the Cap and Gown Room. We are accepting eight teams total, and please sign-up in teams of five. Deadline is Nov. 20. Winners will be awarded $50.

Do you want to make a difference in a child’s life this Christmas season? By packing a simple shoebox you can help a child experience God’s love and hear the good news of Jesus Christ. Boxes will be available in the Bruin Den during meal times for you to pick up. You can drop any finished boxes off at the Outreach Ministries office or bring them to the Packing Party in the EHS Atrium from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23.

We will be packing boxes with the local community to bless hundreds of children this Christmas season. Hope to see you there.

Don’t forget to join us tonight (Monday) as Jeremy Begbie from the Duke Divinity School and Wolfson College, Cambridge, presents “Re-Tuned by God: The Future of Worship” at 7 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium. He is a guest of the College of Christian Studies and William Penn Honors Program.

Begbie will speak, perform, and use recorded music and visual material to explore the way the New Testament helps us understand more deeply some of the basic components of worship. He is a professionally trained musician and theologian who has taught in the United Kingdom and North America and delivered multimedia performance lectures around the world.

In addition to his Monday performance, Begbie will speak as a guest of the music and religion departments on Tuesday, Nov. 19, from 4 to 5 p.m. in Ross 208. The “Intellectual Feast” session is also open to the university community free of charge.

In support of our Creation Care values, Human Resources has issued year-end W-2 forms online in “Self Service” for all employees. In order for the university to save the expense of purchasing, printing, stuffing into envelopes and delivering your form by campus mail, the law requires that you give your consent to receiving this form online.

If you consented last year, you do not need to do so again. You can verify your consent status or give consent for the first time by following the steps below. It only takes about 30 seconds, so we encourage you to take care of it as soon as possible (perhaps right now?) Here’s how:

1. Log in to mygfu.georgefox.edu
2. From the menu at left, select “Self Service”
3. Select “Payroll and Compensation”
4. Select “W-2/W-2c Consent”
5. Check your current status. Does it say “Consent received?” If so, thank you! You’re done. If not …
6. Read the statement and check the box to give consent
7. Enter your GFU password as a confirmation of your identity and click “Continue”
8. Click OK

You’ll receive a confirmation e-mail of your decision shortly after completing this process. And just to be clear, you will only have to do this once — not every year.
