Textbook Buyback begins this Monday

Textbook Buyback begins Monday, Dec. 16! This semester, Buyback will be in the Textbook Annex (not the main store). You may check the value of your books ahead of time and print a price quote for an extra 10 percent back.

Go to gfubookstore.com, click on “Sell Textbooks,” select “George Fox University” and enter the book information. Print the quote to lock in your prices (valid for 24 hours only) and bring that to the Annex. (Rental books are also due by Friday, Dec. 20, at 4 p.m.)

Finals Week Distraction: Bookmaking Workshop at Chehalem Cultural Center

Bookmaking Workshop with Forrest Freed at the Chehalem Cultural Center!
When: Wednesday, Dec. 18, 6–9 p.m.
Cost: $20

For the holiday season, Forrest Freed will be offering a Book Arts workshop where you will learn how to create a “pamphlet stitch book.” These books could function as a great handmade Christmas gift as either a journal, sketchbook, or photo album. It will have blank pages inside and a colorful cover, and the making process will involve simple folding and gluing.

If time permits, we will also make and decorate Christmas cards and envelopes.

Engineering’s annual ‘Wobble-Off’ set for this afternoon

Swing by EHS today (Thursday) to see the engineering department’s 10th annual “Wobble-Off” competition. Engines will be on display in the EHS Atrium from 2 to 3 p.m., and the engine competition begins at 3 p.m. in Wood-Mar Auditorium.

Come and enjoy this demonstration of freshman engineering students’ first projects – an exciting variety of oscillating steam/air-operated engines. The event highlights the students’ first-year studies in engineering design, solid modeling and machining, and showcases the creative and impressive results of their design-build projects.

The students’ engines will compete in a variety of categories, including maximum speed, minimum vibration, maximum coast, cost efficiency and creativity/craftsmanship.

If you choose to purchase this lunch special, you will be placed in a raffle to win a Hunger Games poster or a Peeta Mellark cardboard cutout.

This pita wrap is $5.95 and includes chicken, bacon, spinach, cucumbers, red onions, feta cheese, avocado and Caesar dressing. Included is a side of seasoned tater tots and ether a medium drink or a water bottle.

Final Urban Outreach events of 2013 are this week

This week will be the last time for 2013 that Urban Outreach will go to Portland and Salem to serve the homeless. As winter sets in, we want to warm them with the compassion of Christ. Come and share life with the least of these!

We’ll leave from the Bruin Den on Friday, Dec. 13, with the Salem group leaving at 5 p.m. and the Portland team at 5:30 p.m. We’ll also meet on Saturday in the Bruin Den for a trip to Salem at 5:15 p.m.

Bracelet sale in SUB benefits typhoon victims

Do you like colorful bracelets with hundreds of different choices to choose from?

During lunch time (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) through Friday, Threads of Hope, an organization that works with the impoverished in the Philippines, will be selling these bracelets in the SUB. These handmade friendship bracelets are made on the beautiful beaches of the Philippines. Proceeds will go to help the families who have been impacted by Typhoon Haiyan.

Bon Appetit will be serving our annual Christmas buffet to all of our meal plan students on Tuesday, Dec. 17, from 4:30 to 7 p.m., and we’d like to invite staff, faculty and commuter students to Klages to join in our celebration. 1. I need a ride for myself and 1 other for Sunday, Dec. 22nd. Our flight leaves at 12:05 from PDX, so we’d have to leave Fox around 9, just in case. We’d also be more than willing to pay for the gas money to get up there. So if anyone is still around at that time, it would be more than appreciated. ASC accepting project proposals now through Dec. 20

The ASC Student Project Fund is open for proposals from now until Friday, Dec. 20. This fund is for sustainable, on-campus projects, which will serve as permanent additions to the campus, as so desired by the student body. Projects for consideration should include those which serve as permanent physical additions.

Examples of projects are the fire pit, electrical outlets in the Bruin Den and the Amphitheater.

Final Redeeming Life meeting of semester is tonight

Tonight (Wednesday) at 7 p.m. is the last Redeeming Life meeting of the semester. Come and be encouraged with others who have walked in and are walking a similar path. For those who don’t know, Redeeming Life is a support group for those struggling with eating disorders and disordered eating. Just know that there is hope and healing and you are never alone!

We will meet in the religious studies lounge on the second floor of Hoover. As tonight is the official last meeting of the semester, we will also be talking about future plans for the spring as we will continue to meet and walk with one another through the healing, restorative journey of recovery.
