Mail and print services staff will be attending a three-day training next week, Wednesday through Friday, March-12-14. We will be open our normal hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Print Services will be operated by the student work force. Jobs may be delayed or postponed.

If you have any major print jobs planned during those three days, please contact Richard Silver at ext. 2551 or Marlee Zakrevsky at ext. 2550 today (Friday) or by Monday to discuss the details.

College of Business Dean Candidate Murray MacTavish will speak Monday, March 10, on the topic, “What is your three- to five-year vision for a College of Business in a Christian university? Considering today’s higher education climate, what are the key success factors that will promote George Fox’s College of Business to not only survive, but to thrive, in the future?”

The presentation will be from 10:40 to 11:30 a.m. in EHS 102 on the Newberg campus. Murray is currently the MBA director and associate professor of leadership and international management at Trinity Western University in British Columbia, Canada.

All are invited to join us for a session, “Women Serving AND Leading: The Role of Presence and Power in Servant Leadership,” from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, in EHS 102 on the Newberg campus. Our own MaryKate Morse from the seminary will be presenting.

Women and men in institutional environments can default to traditional roles of men primarily leading and women primarily serving. Jesus led and served, and he invited women and men to do the same.

This presentation by MaryKate explores the unique challenges women face as servant-leaders and suggests ways men and women might support each other on the journey. We hope you can join us! Refreshments will be served. The event is sponsored by the Leadership Development Initiative.

All are invited to International Chapel this morning (Friday) as we welcome Ping-Yi Shi, who will speak on the topic of how God led her to serve students at George Fox. The title of her talk is: “He plans my future.”

Many of us wonder what our future will be. Ping-Yi will share thoughts on how we can trust God to lead and guide us. You are welcome to come, listen, ask questions and be encouraged. We’ll meet from 10:40 to 11:30 a.m. in the International Center/Cultural House.

International Chapel is eligible for chapel elective credit. It is designed to help us better understand what it means to be a Christian.

Don’t have time for an internship? Join MODE (Minds of Dedicated Entrepreneurs) as we take on projects with local nonprofits. These projects will be made to have an internship-like experience, but will be much shorter and will be mainly concentrated in the Newberg area.

MODE will work with every type of major(s) and/or skills. Every project that MODE will do will be different. That means that in one project we may need a photographer and in another we may need an accountant. If you are interested, email us your first and last name, along with your major(s) with a description of your skills.

The George Fox women’s basketball team will play Whitworth on Friday, March 7, in the first round of the NCAA National Tournament in Walla Walla, Wash., at 5 p.m., followed by West Regional host Whitman vs. Chapman at 7 p.m. The two winners will meet Saturday at 7 p.m. at Whitman for a chance to advance to the Sweet 16 and a sectional at a site to be announced.

Join us this Saturday, March 8, for the annual Rich Allen Classic track meet and tour the first phases of the new Stoffer Family Stadium, home of Bruin track and field and future home of Bruin football.

While the stadium project isn’t complete, the covered grandstands will provide much-needed shelter from the early-March weather. Additionally, we would love for you to walk through the newly completed Duke Athletic Center and see the plans for the remainder of the project, including artificial-surface field, all-new field event elements, lights, and the video board with integrated timing capabilities.

The Rich Allen Classic track meet runs from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and the open house for the Duke Athletic Center is open between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., during which time snacks and refreshments will be served. We’ll also host a Stoffer Family Stadium presentation and prize drawing between 1:30 and 2:15 p.m. in the classroom of the Duke Athletic Center.

Tomorrow night (Friday) the board meal in Klages will coincide with the Empty Bowls event, a fundraiser to assist with the medical expenses for Professor Doug Campbell, who suffered a stroke in November 2012.

Hours of service will be 5 to 7 p.m. Here is the menu:

• Make-your-own soup bar, featuring a variety of scratch-made broths and 18 different toppings
• Artisan breads

The cost for adults is $12 each or $10 per person for families of four or more.

The Center for Peace and Justice, the International Justice Mission and Quaere Verum invite you to a showing of the film Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide. The film, based on the book by Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, will be shown over two nights, with part one tonight (Thursday) and part two on Monday, March 10.

Tonight’s part-one showing will be at 9 p.m. in Shalom (Cap and Gown Room). Monday’s part-two presentation will be at 7 p.m. in the same location. Chapel credit is available for attendance. In addition, a discussion panel – featuring Kathy Heininge, Marcie Gowan, Sarah Baldwin and guest Shoshon Tama-Sweet – will discuss the film at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, in the Special Collections Room in the library.

About the Film

Half the Sky focuses on six issues within six countries: Cambodia (sex trafficking), Kenya (economic empowerment), India (intergenerational prostitution), Sierra Leone (gender based violence), Somaliland (maternal health) and Vietnam (education).

Traveling with reporter Kristof and celebrity advocates America Ferrera, Diane Lane, Eva Mendes, Meg Ryan, Gabrielle Union and Olivia Wilde, the series introduces women and girls who are living under some of the most difficult circumstances imaginable – and fighting bravely to change them.

R. R.A.C.E. is a spring running event through Newberg that will benefit the community and bring it together through interaction with local businesses. R. R.A.C.E. is a unique endeavor that is a fun experience/event where participants can explore Newberg and potentially win prizes. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The Event: The run will begin at Jaquith Park, where runners will be shown a map of participating businesses throughout Newberg. They will have an allotted amount of time to visit as many businesses as possible to collect a raffle ticket at each and return before the time is up. We will then raffle off prizes, so the more tickets the better your chances of winning!

All profits from R. R.A.C.E. will be donated to Love INC.
