Tuesday session discusses women’s roles as servant-leaders

March 6th, 2014

All are invited to join us for a session, “Women Serving AND Leading: The Role of Presence and Power in Servant Leadership,” from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, in EHS 102 on the Newberg campus. Our own MaryKate Morse from the seminary will be presenting.

Women and men in institutional environments can default to traditional roles of men primarily leading and women primarily serving. Jesus led and served, and he invited women and men to do the same.

This presentation by MaryKate explores the unique challenges women face as servant-leaders and suggests ways men and women might support each other on the journey. We hope you can join us! Refreshments will be served. The event is sponsored by the Leadership Development Initiative.

Questions? Email Sarah Baldwin at sbaldwin@georgefox.edu.

Chapel Credit Reminder

March 5th, 2014

At this point in the semester you should have around 7 chapel credits. To check on the status of your chapel credits, please check your MyGFU (under “students resources” and then “chapel”; you will see a list of all events with a check next to every event attended. Your requirement and amount of credits still needed is at the bottom of this page).

There are 14 more events for credit this semester, and as a reminder you may earn up to 5 of your total credits from chapel electives. We are always adding electives to our list. If you have podcast permission granted through a chapel waiver form, remember you can watch podcasts for credit.

Questions:

What’s the policy?
All undergraduate students who have fewer than 93 accumulative credits and are not 23 by the beginning of the 2014 spring semester must earn 15 chapel credits by Friday, April 25. An overview of our deficiency policy and explanation of where to find the podcast and the chapel credit form are found on your MyGFU account.

I went to chapel but my credit isn’t showing up?
If you went to a chapel event but your credit isn’t showing up you may send us a summary of the chapel at spiritaullife@georgefox.edu with you ID number.

Why do I need to go to chapel, I’m a senior?
If you are a senior, in order for the system to recognize you as a senior you must have 93 accumulative credits. You must not actually have 93 credits prior to this semester. Good news! If you are a fourth-year student we just need you to request that the registrar’s office sign a waiver form clarifying this is indeed your fourth year. Here is the waiver form.

If you have any questions, please email our staff at spirituallife@georgefox.edu or stop by our office at the corner of Sheridan and Meridian.

Enjoy this beautiful day!

Please come by during office hours or call 503-554-2090 to see if your lost items have been turned in. If they have not been turned in, we will collect the info about your missing items and add them to our list.

Better yet, write your name on your water bottles, jacket tags, etc. so we can notify you when your lost items are turned in.

Finding favorable learning ‘spaces’ discussed Monday night

March 5th, 2014

Brouwer will present “Spaces Where Learners Flourish,” in which she will explore the sorts of “spaces” that provide particularly favorable environments in which learners can thrive in the present and in the future we cannot see.

The same session is presented from 4:40 to 5:40 p.m.; however, it is recommended that the general public attend the evening session, if possible.
