The softball vs. Pacific Lutheran on Friday is the makeup of a rained-out game, and PLU will actually serve as the home team.

In case of wet weather, the men’s tennis match against Whitman on Friday will be moved to Sunday at 2 p.m. at Club Green Meadows in Vancouver, Wash., and the match versus Whitworth on Saturday will be moved to 9:30 a.m. at The Courthouse in Salem, Ore.

Sophia Tegart performs faculty flute recital this Monday

Come hear Sophia Tegart on flute and James Pick on piano perform works by Bach, Clarke (The Great Train Race), Schulhoff, Taffanel and Taktakishvili at 7:30 p.m. this Monday, April 7, in Bauman Auditorium. The concert will also feature the Tardis Ensemble with Clark Spencer (viola) and Tyler Abbott (bass).

Sophia has performed throughout the United States and Europe. She has placed at national and international flute competitions and has played with the Eugene, Spokane, Walla Walla, and Kansas City symphonies, among others. She is also a founding member of the Tardis Ensemble.

She has served on the faculties of Concordia University and the University of Idaho. Currently, Sophia teaches applied flute, flute ensemble, Music in World Cultures, and the History of Rock & Roll (starting spring 2015) at George Fox.

Support Summer Serve by attending April 12 banquet

Come support our Summer Serve students by attending our Summer Serve banquet from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, in the Klages Dining Room.

You will hear from each team of students who are going to Argentina, Romania and Kenya and partnering with various organizations there. Tickets are $12 per person.

Community Garden Work Day

This Saturday, April 5, from 1 to 3 p.m. we will be having our second community garden work day! We will be working in the garden behind Coffin. If you enjoyed working in the garden last time or were unable to make it and want to give it a try, we would love to have you there.

Chapel elective credit is available for this hands-on event, and there will be a time of discussion after our work. We hope to see you there to enjoy some dirt and hopefully some sunshine.

Summer housing applications are now in Student Life

If you are interested in May Term or summer housing, please submit an application to the student life office by Friday, April 25. To be considered for on-campus housing during this time, students need to meet one of the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in May Term classes
  • Working full time (40 hours per week) for the university as a summer employee
  • Participating in research as a summer research scholar

Please refer to the 2014 Summer Housing Application for additional details. These are available online or in the student life office.

Annual blood drive is Thursday in VAC

The Nursing Club is hosting its annual Spring Blood Drive on Thursday, April 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Villa Academic Complex (501 N. Villa St.).

This blood drive is open to all students and community members over the age of 16. Each donation can save up to three lives!

Feminism and the Church panel discussion is Thursday

After being snowed out in February, the Feminism and the Church panel has been rescheduled to this Thursday, April 3, at Shalom. A panel of faculty, students and recent grads will answer questions about what gender equality might look like in our churches and on campus.

We will begin at 9 p.m. in the Cap and Gown Room.

Comic murder-mystery takes Wood-Mar stage this week

Come laugh with us this week as our theatre students perform the spring comic murder-mystery The Game’s Afoot. Shows begin tomorrow (Thursday) in Wood-Mar Auditorium! Performance dates are April 3-5 and April 10-13. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. with the exception of the Sunday, April 13, performance, scheduled as a 2 p.m. matinee.

Students are welcome to attend either Thursday production for free. Employees are entitled to one complimentary ticket, available for pick-up at the Box Office in the Pennington House. A summary of the show and the opportunity to purchase additional tickets are available at theatre.georgefox.edu.

Summer Serve students seek activity and craft supplies

Summer Serve students will be in Romania and Moldova from mid-May to early June, partnering with Word Made Flesh (WMF) to build relationships with youth in WMF’s community centers. You can support the team by donating activity and craft supplies that we can bring along with us!

Please look over the list of needed supplies, and drop off your donation at the SpIL House by Friday, May 2.

Commencement information for graduating seniors

Seniors: Now that you have picked up your regalia, please check out the commencement website for all of the details about your big day on Saturday, May 3! Some important highlights include:

  • New for the Class of 2014: a senior class picture will be taken at 11:45 a.m. on the quad (sunny weather) or in the new stadium (rainy weather). Wear your regalia!
  • Tickets will be mailed in mid-April to your campus box. Each graduate will receive 10 tickets for guests.
  • If you want to attend the “other” ceremony to watch friends graduate, you may pick up a ticket at the academic affairs office on the first floor of Stevens. These tickets will be available April 21-30 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • You have been assigned to either the 10 a.m. or 2:30 p.m. ceremony based on your college. If you want to request to participate in the other ceremony, the Commencement Petition Form will be available through Friday, April 11.
  • There is no rehearsal prior to commencement.
  • Please arrive at the Wheeler Sports Center one hour before your commencement start time: 9 a.m. for those in the 10 a.m. ceremony and 1:30 p.m. for those in the 2:30 p.m. ceremony.
  • Doors will open for guests one hour before the ceremony start time.

Accreditation team set to visit Newberg, Portland campuses next week

As you may have heard, a Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) accreditation team will visit the Newberg and Portland campuses next week, on April 8-10. Staff and administration are invited to consider meeting with the accreditation team at the staff and administration sessions that will be announced prior to the team’s visit.

At these sessions, or any time during their visit, feel free to speak honestly with the team about your position within the George Fox community and how you see your role as a member of our community working in support of the mission and core themes at George Fox.

Please take some time to review the resources available on our website regarding our George Fox University Mission and Themes as well as the Institutional Report, and at any time, contact academic affairs with any questions you may have regarding the team visit or accreditation process.
