On Monday, April 28, the Villa Café and Bruin Bites will be closed. The Bruin Den hours will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. All cafes will be back to regular hours on Tuesday.

Spring Concert plays in Bauman Auditorium Friday night

The Department of Music invites you to its annual Spring Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 25, in Bauman Auditorium. The concert features the Chehalem Symphony Orchestra, George Fox Symphonic Band, as well as the university’s Concert Choir, Women’s Chorale and Master Chorus performing Mass of the Children with the Chehalem Symphony Orchestra.

Students and employees are entitled to one complimentary ticket to the performance. Additional tickets are available to purchase online, at music.georgefox.edu, or at the Box Office in the Pennington House.

The final Fox & Friends event is tonight (Thursday) at 7 p.m.! Join residents at Friendsview for ice cream sundaes and games! Celebrate the coming of summer and a year well-spent with the elderly in the community. A group of students will be meeting in the Bruin Den at 6:45 p.m. to walk over to Friendsview together.

Good news! Beginning with the graduating classes of spring 2014, George Fox student email addresses will continue indefinitely. If your department provides information to graduating students about their transition out of George Fox, please be sure any information that you provide regarding their email accounts is up-to-date with this new information.

Below is the information graduates are receiving:

  • You can use and access all of your current mail and Google docs.
  • You’ll continue to access your email by going to mail.georgefox.edu and using your existing username and password.
  • If you are already forwarding your George Fox email, your forwarding will remain intact.
  • You can forward your George Fox email address to another email address in the settings of your George Fox Gmail account.

End the school year with free food at two athletic events

What better way to end the school year than with free food and sports? Read on for details!

Today (Thursday), FCA is sponsoring a barbecue at the baseball game at 4 p.m. All students with a student ID will get a free grilled hot dog and peanuts. All other fans can purchase a hot dog for $2. Bring a blanket to sit on and be ready to cheer your Bruins to victory! Follow the George Fox Athletics Facebook page to stay up-to-date on the rain plan, if necessary.

Tomorrow (Friday), join us in the gym at 1:30 p.m. as we celebrate nearly 100 incoming freshmen athletes during George Fox’s Commitment Day. Grab a cupcake and give our newest Bruins a rowdy welcome!

Plan to attend Spring Formal this Sunday

Take a break from school and join us at the last event of the year. Spring Formal will be at the Portland World Trade Center from 8 to 10 p.m. on Sunday, April 27. Tickets will continue to be on sale this week, and will also be sold at the door for $7.

Final performance of ‘Third and Oak: The Laundromat’ is tonight

Tonight (Thursday) is the final performance of Alpha Psi Omega’s Third and Oak: The Laundromat, a one-act play by Marsha Norman and directed by Cambria Herrera. The performance is at 10:45 p.m. at the Newberg Coin Laundromat at 1100 N. Springbrook Road.

Tickets are available at the door for $5.

Drop off your Summer Serve garage sale items by Friday

Only two more days! Collection week has been extended through this Friday, April 25, for those who have items to donate toward our Summer Serve garage sale.

If you have items you’d like to donate to a good cause, drop them off at the Spiritual Life House between 2 and 5 p.m. through Friday of this week. All donations will be sold at the Summer Serve garage sale on Saturday, April 26, and will help fund the teams going to Romania/Moldova, Kenya and Argentina.

If you have not personally indicated to Mail Services – either by response to emails from Mail Services or requesting it on a summer address card – that you want your mailbox open during the summer, it will be closed the last day of finals. Farewell reception for Baldwins set for April 30 in Stevens Center

Come join the spiritual life and student life departments in commissioning Sarah Baldwin and Clint Baldwin in their future endeavors! We will host a farewell reception for them from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, in the Stevens Center’s Duke Atrium.

Sarah served George Fox as the dean of spiritual life and university pastor, and Clint has served as the director of Center for Peace and Justice. Sarah has accepted the position of vice president of student development at Asbury University.

Let’s celebrate this new step in their journey as well as thank them for the time they have spent in developing our campus community!

All invited to Engineering Expo this Friday in EHS

The university’s College of Engineering invites you to its annual Engineering Expo this Friday, April 25. The event will begin with Senior Design project presentations, scheduled from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in EHS 102, 119 and 125, and the Expo will commence at 3:30 p.m. in the EHS Atrium (Ron Gregory Atrium).

The Expo will feature project displays from the program’s industry-sponsored Senior Design and Servant Engineering teams for companies and organizations, including NASA, Oregon Commission for the Blind, Aprovecho Research Center, InStove, 5-Rock Ranch, City of Newberg, Heshima, Astronics, Yamhill County, CUI, Climax, ODFW, Siemens, Greater Yamhill Watershed Council, Cascade Steel and 3D Systems.

Important housing dates for 2014-15

Important dates to keep in mind for 2014-15:

  • Returning students may move into campus housing for fall semester 2014 beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23.
  • Residence halls and suites will be closed for Christmas break (Dec. 13, 2014, at noon through Jan. 11, 2015, at noon) and spring break (March 21, 2015, at noon through March 29 at noon). 
  • Residence halls are open for spring semester on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, at noon. 
  • Campus housing closes for the academic year at noon on May 2, 2015.

As you are cleaning out your dorms and offices in the next week, it would be greatly appreciated if you would bring back to Bon Appetit any dishware you may have taken out of the building during the school year or that got left in offices, conference rooms, etc.

We have some bus tubs set up just outside the dish room for your convenience in returning dishes.

Summer housing information for student supervisors

Applications for May Term/Summer housing are available to students on the student life website and in the student life office. Students have until Friday, April 25, to complete the application and return it to student life.

We are asking students to verify their employment by having supervisors email housing@georgefox.edu so we can keep track of this information. As you hire summer workers, please notify the housing department.

Please refer to the 2014 Summer/May Term Housing Application for additional details. These are available online or in the Office of Student Life.

Applications for May Term/summer housing due this Friday

If you are interested in May Term or summer housing, please submit an application to the student life office by Friday, April 25. To be considered for on-campus housing during this time, students need to meet one of the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in May Term classes
  • Working full time (40 hours per week) for the university as a summer employee
  • Participating in research as a summer research scholar
