Reminder to submit June time-off reports and time sheets to HR right away

July 6th, 2014

For this month especially, we are asking for time sheets (support staff) and time-off reports (administrators) to be submitted as soon as possible so we can provide the necessary year-end vacation accrual reports to the finance office in a timely manner.

Administrators, please resume using paper time-off reports. If you would like to download a copy to keep on your desktop, you can find it at this link.

We had hoped embedding the form in the body of an email would allow us to discontinue using the paper forms; but unfortunately, it did not work out well on the payroll end of the process. We will continue to explore other possibilities for automating this process to improve efficiencies and eliminate paper, but until further notice, we need to ask you to use the paper form.

Thank you,
HR

FY 2014-15 chart of accounts update

June 29th, 2014

Our new chart of accounts is set to go live on Tuesday, July 1. Here’s an update on how to use or find additional information:

  • First, nothing will change for finishing up your June 30 (FY13/14) transactions. Continue to use the same forms and run the same reports. These transactions are still using the current chart of accounts.
  • Please follow any instructions you have already received from Human Resources regarding payroll forms and direct payroll questions to the HR team. The next payroll will be on July 31, with no mid-month process for check requests in July.
  • There has been a page added to the finance webpage (georgefox.edu/finance) for chart of accounts information.
  • Coming soon will be:
    • Instructions explaining the new chart fields and how to use them.
    • Instructions for using the “commitment control” inquiry feature to review your departments.
    • Instructions for using the purchase order system for FY14/15 purchases.
    • Resource for translating your current coding into the new 14/15 coding.
  • There will be a new section on the “Common Forms” page for FY14/15 Forms to be used for FY14/15 business.

Most of you will be busy finishing up your June 30 work during the first few days of July. We are making every effort to have all these materials available before you need them to begin creating purchase orders, check requests or deposits for the new fiscal year. If you do not find what you need to complete your July transactions, please call the finance office at ext. 2167 and we will help you.

Thank you,
The Chart of Accounts Team

Fall 2014 Meal plan selection available in MyGFU

June 25th, 2014

The meal plan selection form has been activated in MyGFU.

The meal plan is required for all students living on campus. You are eligible for meal plans based on the number of completed credits you have.

Detailed information about meal plans can be found at this webpage.

PLEASE NOTE: There are been some changes to the meal plan options. You can read all about meal plans on the Meal Plan Options page.

Student life requires that EVERYONE confirm their meal plan to be certain that you have the meal plan that you are expecting.

Please take a few minutes now to select the meal plan you are eligible for.

You can select your meal plan and confirm which meal plan you have in your MyGFU account – STUDENT RESOURCES – UNIVERSITY FORMS – MEAL PLAN FORM.

Please Note: All changes must be processed no later than Friday, Sept. 5, 2014. However, students can always add a meal plan throughout the semester by contacting Jere Witherspoon in the student life office.

Accommodations to the meal plan are provided only through documented medical conditions. Please read the Meal Plan Accommodation Request Form found on the Student Life Forms page to see if you are eligible for an accommodation.

No other accommodations are accepted.

If you do not choose a meal plan prior to coming to campus, you may be assigned a meal plan based on your eligibility. You will be notified of this via email.

All questions about the meal plans should be directed to Jere Witherspoon in the student life office.

Student life expects students to manage their meal plan selection, confirming that they have the meal plan that that were intending to have.

And now, a brief essay about the meal plan benefits by Dave Johnstone, associate dean of residence life:

The best part of a meal plan has nothing to do with the quality or nutrition of the food. The attractive part of eating on a meal plan is the opportunity to frequently connect with peers and classmates. Sharing a meal – engaging in conversation around the table, debriefing the day or anticipating what might unfold – is really the gem of being on a meal plan.

Historically and culturally, communities have been built around food. I am not sure why it works, but sharing a meal is one of most significant ways to build a relationship; hence it strengthens our community. That in itself is a major benefit for being on the meal plan.
