In light of the fact more thefts have been reported on campus this week, security services reminds you to keep your valuables secure or take them with you. Just this week, backpacks were stolen from the Wheeler Sports Center and a bike from the Villa Academic Complex. Some items have been discovered and returned to the victims.
Also, please be sure to report any unusual activity to security right away so we can respond and investigate. You may do so by calling 503-554-2090 or in person at the Security Services House.
Reported Offense: A theft from one gym bag was reported to security services on Tuesday night, Oct. 7, and occurred in the Wheeler Sports Center by the racquetball courts. Three backpacks were taken from the sports office in Wheeler around noon on Oct. 9, and a bicycle was also taken from the Villa Academic Center bike racks between noon and 1 p.m.
Suspects: Unknown at this time. It can be assumed that the possibility of other thefts continue to exist. Security is working with the Newberg-Dundee Police Department on this situation.

The campus community is invited to the next installment of the “Islam and the West” Liberal Arts and Critical Issues series this Monday, Oct. 13, in Hoover 105. The session runs from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and features Miriam Adeney, associate professor of world Christian studies at Seattle Pacific University.
Adeney will present “Jesus’ People in the Muslim World: Followers of Jesus, Christian and Muslim,” in which she will discuss the diverse views of Jesus and the diverse kinds of followers of Christ. The same session is presented from 5 to 6 p.m.; however, it is recommended that the general public attend the evening session, if possible.

The time has come once again to begin the process of selecting our undergraduate “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges†nominees for the 2014-15 academic year.
Staff, faculty and administrators are invited to respond to this selection process. For more information, check out the Who’s Who website.
For those of you who have contact with our undergraduate population, you have the opportunity to make nominations by selecting 20 students who you feel are worthy of recognition from the students who qualify for selection. These students are eligible for nomination and expect to graduate either mid-year or spring (December 2014 or May 2015).
In addition, they all have a GPA of at least 3.50 and have turned in their application for degree. Other criteria for choosing a student include their demonstration of:
One-hundred and forty-five students are eligible for nomination based on GPA alone. We will record your top 20 selections and determine the top 25 choices university-wide. We will then invite the top 25 students to respond. All students who respond will be awarded the “Who’s Who” honor.
(Please note: There may be others who qualify to be on this list, but because they have not registered for commencement at the time of the selection process, they are not on this list.)
To make your selection, please select 20 students in the list on this survey. Please choose no more than 20 students.

Gary Tandy, professor of English, and Sarah Hardy, public services librarian, will lead the session, scheduled from 10:50 to 11:40 a.m. in Hoover 105. Encourage your students to attend.
