Are you interested in helping with an Exercise Science experiment? The experiment will test knee angles during landing with a hope of improving knee health in high-risk, active female populations.
The experiment will need a group of approximately 30 women. Participants must have at least 3 months experience exercising and experience no pain during jumping, running, and squatting. Participants will be conducting 2-3 workouts per week over an 8 week period.

The first Fox & Friends event of the year is Thursday, Sept. 25. We will meet in the Bruin Den at 6:10 p.m. and the event will last until 8 p.m. Fox & Friends consists of monthly parties at Friendsview Retirement Center. This month we are “speed-friending,” and the goal is to encourage friendships with the elderly community at Friendsview.
Come and enjoy a night of silly questions, Italian sodas, and free food, as well as the company of elders in our community!

This Saturday, Sept. 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. residence life and ASC are sponsoring a one-day women’s self-defense class. Recently we were able to arrange things so the class is free of charge for current students and $25 for staff and faculty. It will be held at a location to be determined.
Sign-ups are in the student life office. While it is on a first-come, first-served basis, there is also a waiting list. No specific athletic ability is required.

Now that fall weather is here and it gets dark shortly after 7 p.m., security services would like to remind you about our escort service. If you don’t have a buddy to walk with across campus, please call security at 503-554-2090 and an officer can escort you back to your vehicle or on-campus residence.
Please be aware of your surroundings when you do walk on campus or around town and do not wear ear buds/headphones when walking, as you need to be able to hear somebody approaching. If you see or notice anybody that seems out of place or who doesn’t “belong,” please call security as soon as possible and describe the person(s) and what they were wearing/driving. We are happy to check it out for you!
Calling all men who may have left athletic gear in the Wheeler Sports Center men’s locker room last spring: Your items were bagged and stored all summer, and now it’s time for you to claim them.
We have shoes, shorts, T-shirts, racquets, toiletries, etc. They are currently in the baseball team room, but construction is starting in that location so their tenure there could be short. If this announcement pertains to you, please retrieve your items by Wednesday, Oct. 1.

The Wineskin, the university’s student literary magazine, is now accepting submissions for publication. If you have a literary piece you’ve been working on, this is a great opportunity to showcase your talent.
We are accepting poetry, fiction, non-fiction, artist/author interviews, paintings, drawings, charcoal drawings and photography.
The maximum word count for written pieces is 1,500 words. All submissions are due by Oct. 10.

Self will speak twice on the Newberg campus. In the morning, he will present “Liberated for the Life in the World†in the 10:40 a.m. chapel service in Bauman Auditorium (chapel credit is available). After chapel, a book table will be set up in the lobby where you can purchase his books.
In the evening, he will speak on “Flourishing Communities: New Synergies†at 6:30 p.m. in Hoover 105.
Self helps oversee major grants for the integration of faith, work and economics for the Kern Family Foundation. He is the author or coauthor of three books: The Divine Dance (2003), The Power of Faithful Focus (2004), and Flourishing Churches and Communities: A Pentecostal Primer on Faith, Work, and Economics (2013).

Valley Repertory Theatre, a local nonprofit theatre company, will kick off its fourth season of live theatre with the production The Whipping Man by Matthew Lopez. The play opens Oct. 10, and all performances will be at the Newberg Masonic Lodge, 402 E. Sheridan St., in Newberg.
In recognition of the Civil War’s 150th anniversary, Valley Rep is hosting a special lecture and performance on Friday, Oct. 17, when Kerry Irish, professor of American history at George Fox, will introduce the play with a special historical presentation at 7:30 p.m., with the performance immediately following. There is no additional charge for this pre-show event.
The show runs for three weekends. Evening (7:30 p.m.) performance dates are Oct. 10, 11, 17, 18, 24 and 25. Matinee (2 p.m.) performance dates are Oct. 12, 19 and 26. Doors open at 7:10 p.m. and 1:40 p.m., respectively.
