PLA program hosts evaluator training session Friday

October 21st, 2014

If you would like a little cash in your pocket and/or are interested in seeing what George Fox’s adult students are up to, please consider evaluating student essay submissions for the Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) program. All evaluators – both new and returning – are required to attend a PLA Evaluator Training Session from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24, in Room 117 of the Villa Academic Complex.

Prior learning credit is earned when an adult undergraduate student demonstrates college-level learning that has occurred outside of a traditional college classroom. These adult students submit formal eight- to 10-page essays to the university that must then be evaluated by faculty to determine whether credit should be granted. Faculty evaluators earn $30 per essay in their discipline area.

Jennie Harrop (PLA coordinator) and Matt Sargent (PLA enrollment manager) have been working to streamline the PLA process both in terms of essay expectations and submission requirements, and look forward to sharing those ideas on Oct. 24. The process for assessing whether a student has earned college credit is based on established guidelines provided by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) and the American Council on Education (ACE).

RSVP to Jennie at jharrop@georgefox.edu.
