Attention George Fox students and employees: If you are a U.S. military veteran or currently in the Reserves, we want to welcome you and your family to Abby’s Pizza in Newberg tonight (Monday) between 6 and 8 p.m. We will serve you pizza, potatoes and soft drinks for free.

History of rock music covered in spring class

Do you enjoy rock music? The music department is offering the class for you: The History of Rock and Roll (MUSI 285-B Special Topics #3747)! It will be offered during Spring 2015 and meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 to 11:50 a.m. in Ross 208.

Need help when it comes to budgeting and personal finances? The Academic Resource Center is hosting a workshop, “Financial Follies: Managing Personal Finances,” this Thursday, Nov. 13, from 10:50 to 11:40 a.m. in Hoover 105.

Ryan Halley, associate professor of finance, will lead the session.

Here is a synopsis of the workshop:

Have you wondered what it would be like to have more freedom with your personal finances? Have you ever been stressed about your financial situation? If so, come find out what you need to know about money. You’ll be surprised how simple this process can be. This workshop will provide information on a variety of personal finance topics and will focus on budgeting and credit cards.

Wheeler closed on Saturday

The Wheeler Sports Center will be closed tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 8). The fitness center will remain open, but the rest of the facility will be closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please plan accordingly.

Entrance to the fitness center will be through the hallway near the tennis court on field level.

Chinese language and culture instruction offered for employees

Are you interested in learning some basic Chinese phrases and pronunciation assistance for students’ names? Would you like to learn a little more about Chinese culture? Then this is the weekly instruction time for you.

Each Friday from noon to 12:50 p.m. at the International Center/Cultural House, our visiting professors from China will be offering a time for our faculty, staff and administrators to learn Chinese language and culture.

Plan accordingly with Bruin Preview guests in dining room

With our Bruin Preview guests on campus today (Friday), it will get very crowded in the dining room during breakfast and lunch. Overflow seating will be available in the Cap and Gown Room for both meals.

We are expecting our guests to come in for breakfast at approximately 8 a.m. so those of you who normally join us for breakfast may want to try and come either before 8 a.m. or after 8:30 a.m. Also, with the large number of guests for lunch we will be serving meals on paper so you may take your food out of the dining room if you prefer.

Christmas Break Housing Closure and Spring Off-Campus Deadline

Residence halls and suites will be closed for Christmas break starting Saturday, Dec. 13, at noon. They will reopen at noon on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015. For more information about closure dates and other housing information, click here.

The last day to submit an off-campus housing request for spring semester 2015 is Friday, Dec. 5. Students approved to move off-campus need to check out of their current housing by noon on Saturday, Dec. 13.

The deadline to apply for an off-campus exemption related to extreme financial hardship is Friday, Dec. 5. Requests should be presented to Student Financial Services.
