The campus community is invited to the first installment of the “Finding Our Way in Postmodern America” Liberal Arts and Critical Issues series this Monday, Jan. 26, in Hoover 105. The session runs from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and features Gideon Strauss, CEO of Africa 2065.

Strauss will present “Lost & Found: A Few Wayfinding Practices,” in which he will explore a handful of practices that may be helpful as we try and find our way through life in the world, starting out from the premise that being genuinely lost is a necessary part of the journey. Along the way, he will consider some of the relationships between identity, belonging, belief and vocation.

The university community is invited to the first guest lecture about the historic Saint John’s Bible. This Tuesday, Jan. 27, Eric Hollas, senior associate for Arts & Cultural Affairs at Saint John’s University, will present “The Artist as Preacher – Illumination in The Saint John’s Bible” from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in Hoover 105.

In addition, this afternoon (Friday) Paul Anderson will continue his “Turning of the Page” series regarding the Bible at 4 p.m. in the MLRC.

The Saint John’s Bible is the first completely handwritten and illuminated Bible to have been commissioned by a Benedictine Abbey (Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minn.) since the invention of the printing press. The Heritage Edition of The Saint John’s Bible is the full-size fine art reproduction of the original.

As some of you may know, January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. George Fox is honoring this in a few ways, one of which is hosting an information night on Portland human trafficking awareness.

The event, hosted by the Social Work Club, is set from 6:30 to 8 p.m. tonight (Thursday), in Hoover 105. We will host two well-informed speakers from the Human Trafficking Division of the Portland Police Bureau: Sergeant Chuck Lovell and Detective Brendan McGuire. They will help us to see a clearer picture of trafficking in Portland and focus on awareness, prevention and action.

Snacks and refreshments will be served, and we will provide an opportunity for Q&A afterwards. Please join us in this important event, and learn what you can do about human trafficking in your neighborhood!

The Christian Camp Summer Jobs and Internships Fair is today (Thursday) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the EHS Atrium. The IDEA Center highly encourages students to use your summer in internship and work experiences that complement your career pathway to develop skills, experiences and connections. Working at a Christian summer camp is a great opportunity for students pursuing ministry, education, or other youth development careers.

If you gave your consent to receive your W-2 electronically, your W-2 will be available this Friday, Jan. 23, in MyGFU “Self Service.” If you did not give your consent to receive your W-2 electronically, your W-2 will be mailed or delivered to your campus box next Friday, Jan. 30.

If you process the incoming mail for your department, please be extra cautious on Jan. 30 to ensure that the envelopes containing W-2s reach each recipient.

To access your electronic W-2 beginning Jan. 23, just follow these easy steps:

1. log in to http://mygfu.georgefox.edu
2. Select “Self Service.” If you need your login password reset, please contact the IT Service Desk.
3. Select “Payroll and Compensation”
4. Select “View W-2/W-2c Forms”
5. Select “Year End Form 2014 GFU W-2.” If your form does not open, please check to be sure your pop-up blockers are turned off. If you are not certain how to do this, please contact the IT Service Desk.

If you previously have not given your consent, but would like to receive your W-2 electronically beginning in January 2016, just follow steps 1 through 3 above. Then select “W-2/W-2c Consent.” Check your current consent status. If it does not say “Consent Received,” read the statement and check the box to give your consent. You will be prompted to enter your GFU password as a confirmation of your identity and click “Continue;” finally, click “OK.”

Come support the theatre department by attending our winter musical production, Little Women. The show runs Thursday through Sunday, Feb. 5-8, and Thursday through Sunday, Feb. 12-15, in Wood-Mar Auditorium. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. with the exception of the two Sunday performances, scheduled as 2 p.m. matinees.

Keith Schneider is leaving the university after seven and a half years of service to George Fox. An open house in his honor will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 27, from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Stevens Center’s Duke Atrium. There will be refreshments and a time to share memories.

Hosted by the College of Business, the presentation features Rob Westervelt, executive vice president of enrollment and marketing at George Fox. Four years ago, Westervelt helped the university build a brand that has seen its net revenues grow 21 percent during a time when most universities in George Fox’s category were experiencing significant declines. The Winter Speaker Series event is scheduled from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Portland Center. Complimentary coffee and tea will be provided.
