The campus community is invited to a Liberal Arts and Critical Issues presentation, “Confessions of a Public School Teacher (Who Sends his Child to Private Christian School,” this Monday, Feb. 16, in Hoover 105. The session runs from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and features Andrew Milton, a public school teacher in DuPont, Wash., and author of The Normal Accident Theory of Education.
Milton will consider the logical and philosophical implications of educational choices that have spiritual implications. He finds that modern education won’t serve the needs of postmodern learners – but not for the reasons that you might think.

Genealogists and family historians of all skill levels are invited to a presentation of the riches of archives for genealogical research. The talk will be followed by a discussion and tour of the archives of George Fox University and the Northwest Yearly Meeting.

Don’t forget to join us for the university’s fifth annual Dalton Lecture tomorrow (Thursday) as Dr. William Phillips, a 1997 Nobel Prize winner in physics, presents at 7:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium. The free presentation is entitled “Ordinary Faith, Ordinary Science,” in which he speak on the common ground shared between faith and science. A George Fox student research poster session and dessert reception will follow Phillips’ lecture.
Among the questions Phillips will address are queries that can be particularly troublesome for a Christian: “Why is there suffering if God is good?†“What about all the terrible things done in the name of religion?†and “What about all the good people who are on a different path of faith than Christianity?â€
Phillips will also speak Thursday afternoon, Feb. 12, at 3:30 p.m. on the topic “Time, Einstein and the Coolest Stuff in the Universe” in Bauman Auditorium.

Just a quick reminder that curbs painted yellow are considered as “fire lanes” around campus, and it’s illegal to park by them or to leave a car parked there.
Cars parked outside of marked spots (a line on each side of the vehicle) will be ticketed as parking in a fire lane because emergency vehicles won’t have sufficient room to maneuver closer to a building in case of a fire or emergency.
Please obey this State of Oregon traffic law and park only in marked spaces, especially in the Bauman, Wheeler and VAC lots where it has been problematic.

Join us for a student-directed play coming up on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27-28, when George Fox University theatre’s Alpha Psi Omega Society presents Eleemosynary, a one-act play written by Lee Blessing and directed by Cambria Herrera.
The play begins at 8:30 p.m. each night and runs for an hour and 15 minutes in the Murdock Learning Resource Center. Tickets will be sold for $5 at the door, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Come hear from former University Pastor Sarah Baldwin tonight (Wednesday) in chapel. Sarah now serves as the VP of student development and dean of students as Asbury University. Chapel will be held in Bauman Auditorium at 7 p.m. Chapel credit is available.

Make plans to attend a free concert commemorating a recent upgrade to the university’s pipe organ in Bauman Auditorium. The Organ Dedication Concert, featuring musicians Dan Miller on organ and Kenn Willson on piano, will take the Bauman stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20. General seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
The university recently purchased a Rodgers Digital Organ. By the use of digital technology, the organ’s original pipes have been connected to the digital organ. In doing so, the university preserved the original pipe organ installed in the early 1980s while greatly enhancing the quality of sound.
The program will include the selections Toccata and Fugue in D-minor by Bach, a patriotic tribute including the Navy Hymn, a medley from The Phantom of the Opera and one piano and organ duet on the tune Lord of the Dance (arranged by Joel Raney).

Tickets are still available for the final shows of our winter musical production, Little Women. The show runs Thursday through Sunday, Feb. 12-15, in Wood-Mar Auditorium. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. with the exception of the Sunday performance, scheduled as a 2 p.m. matinee.

This summer, Quaker educators from around the nation will gather at George Fox for their annual meetings June 18-21. Our theme is “Truth and Transformation,” and a special disciplinary focus will be “Quakers and Literature.” As part of the event, essays will be collected for inclusion in a college textbook.
