Auditions coming for theatre’s spring show

University theatre auditions for the spring show, These Shining Lives by Melanie Marnich, are coming up next week. General auditions will take place from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, with call-backs scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 10-11, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Auditions will be in Wood-Mar Auditorium, and Rhett Luedtke will be directing the production.

How to prepare: Prepare a fully memorized and rehearsed 90-second dramatic monologue of your choice for the general audition. Call-backs will feature cold readings.

Call for stationery orders

It’s time to order university stationery. For order instructions, go to the marketing communications website. Continue to purchase all non-departmental stationery (including “second-sheet letterhead”) through the university’s print services.

Orders are due by Monday, Feb. 9.

Deadline to nominate seniors for leadership award is Feb. 13

Do you know of a deserving senior who demonstrates outstanding services as a servant leader on campus or in the community? You can honor that person and the activity of voluntary service by nominating him/her for the CW Perry Servant Leadership Award.

The trustees of the Barney II and Moore Foundations have established the CW Perry Servant Leadership Award at George Fox University to reward leadership in the area of community and ministry service.

Only seniors (graduating in May 2015) are eligible for award consideration. Up to four $1,000 awards will be given annually. Each award recipient will be required to set aside $250 of this gift to the charitable organization of his or her choice. The remaining $750 will be distributed to the award recipient in the form of a cash award.

The aim of this award is to promote the ideals of servant leadership in the George Fox University community.

If you want to make any of those course sites available to students after this update, select “Edit settings” in the Course Administration block. Located in the General section, look for the Visible setting and change “Hide” back to “Show.” Scroll to bottom and “Save changes.”

The campus community is invited to the second installment of the “Finding Our Way in Postmodern America” Liberal Arts and Critical Issues series tonight (Monday) in Hoover 105. The session runs from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and features Cynthia C. Gomez, director of Cultural Centers at Portland State University and commissioner at the Oregon Commission on Hispanic Affairs.

Gomez will present “Intersectional Identities and Conceptions of Self,” in which she will examine the ways in which our intersectional identities, as they relate to our ability to reach our full human potential, are shaped by large structural, historical and economic forces.

Expense Reimbursement Requests reminders

Items and information commonly missed/excluded when submitting Expense Reimbursement Requests to financial affairs:

  1. Number each receipt consecutively and put that number in the “Item #” column, one line per receipt.
  2. Give an explanation of line-items, particularly noting the business purpose of each expenditure. This is critical and is an IRS requirement for an “Accountable Reimbursement Plan,” as noted in the IRS rules which this comes under. Use more than one line per transaction, if needed. A “business purpose” is a short note on the form that says what the cost is and why it is related to what we do at George Fox. An example is, “Food purchased for department volunteers.” What not to say is, “Food.” This would not be acceptable and would be rejected if ever audited by the IRS. If you are traveling, be sure to include the destination in the description column (e.g. “Fundraising conference – Denver, Colo.”)
  3. For reimbursement of personal auto usage, list the actual miles traveled in the “Miles” column. The spreadsheet will automatically calculate the total in the next column.
  4. Any meals being reimbursed must, by IRS rules, include the names of those at the meal, their connection to George Fox, and the business purpose for the meal. The exception to this is when meals are incurred while traveling on university business. To be as careful as possible, you should carefully note that this is the case.
  5. The person being reimbursed must print, sign and date the form in the appropriate place near the bottom of the form.
  6. The person who approves spending for the one being reimbursed must approve this report by printing, signing and dating in the appropriate place at the bottom of the form. If the amount being reimbursed is over the amount that the budget manager can approve, the ERR must go to the next level for approval, according to George Fox approval policies.
  7. If you need to be reimbursed from more than one fund, department or program, use separate ERR forms for each cost center. Approvals would also have to come from the budget managers where appropriate.

Interested in learning Chinese? We’ll be resuming our Chinese labs tomorrow (Tuesday) at 6:50 p.m. in the International Center/Cultural House. We will have excellent Chinese teachers spend an hour with us. We are going to have conversation, as well as discussion, which is always fun. We also offer snacks.
