This is a reminder that students need to pay a $150 non-refundable housing deposit to participate in housing selection for the 2015-16 academic year. After housing assignments have been made this deposit will be held and applied toward future charges.

Housing deposits can be paid in Student Financial Services (SFS) on the first floor of the Stevens Center through March 19. Before you pay you should be aware of the following:

1. Your student account must be paid in full. If on a payment plan, your February payment (or March payment if after March 1) must be received and any amount not covered by your payment plan must be paid.
2. Regardless of who pays the deposit, each student must stop by SFS. If the deposit is accepted you will receive a Housing Deposit Confirmation slip. This slip is needed as a record of payment.
3. A payment received in any other way won’t be processed as a deposit, but instead will overpay the account or be applied toward the next monthly payment. SFS routinely refunds over-payments, so if you get a refund check you are not expecting please stop by to confirm the status of your deposit.

Interested in helping out your fellow students? The Art and Design Department is looking for volunteers to help out with hosting a fashion show on Friday, March 13!

We are hosting not one, but two showings. That means we need a lot of volunteers to help with dressing models, ushering guests, taking tickets, preparing food, the set-up and tear-down process and much more. We need all the help we can get. So, please consider this fun and worthwhile opportunity.

The Sadie Hawkins Dance is here! Ticket sales will begin Monday, Feb. 9, and continue through Friday, Feb. 20. Similar to last year, there will be two boats, the Sternwheeler and the Portland Spirit, sailing the Willamette from the Portland downtown waterfront.

The dance will be on Friday, Feb. 20. There are 350 tickets available for the Sternwheeler, which will board at 9 p.m. and dock at 11:30 p.m. Four-hundred tickets are available for the Portland Spirit, which will board at 9:30 p.m. and dock at midnight.

Tickets are $5 for GFU students and $20 for non-Fox students.

Tickets will be sold outside the ASC offices in the Bruin Den during lunch hours. Bring one student ID per ticket being purchased, and get them early before they are sold out! Tickets can be exchanged for the other boat up until the dance.

On the night of the dance students must get on the boat they have a ticket for. The dance is semi-formal and will feature three levels: swing, DJ dance, and an open roof.

The Tim Tebow Foundation is sponsoring an opportunity for us to give someone with special needs a chance to have an ultimate prom experience. We are looking for volunteers to be hosts and buddies at the dance. There will be free food, limo rides around Newberg, fun dancing, and an opportunity to enjoy the company of someone with special needs.

The dance will be Friday, Feb. 13, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Newberg Christian Church.

Join us today (Friday) to hear Hans Boersma, the J.I. Packer Professor of Theology at Regent College in Vancouver, British Columbia, at 4:30 p.m. in Hoover 105.

The free presentation is entitled “Why We Need an ‘Other’ Reading: Or, Why We Ourselves Are the Ones Taking the Exodus Journey,” in which he will offer a defense of allegory as a method for biblical interpretation, following early Christian authors such as Melito, Origen and Gregory of Nyssa. The talk is aimed at both scholarly and popular audiences who are interested in biblical interpretation and the history of Christian thought more generally.

Boersma has been at Regent since 2005 and taught for six years previously at Trinity Western University in Langley, British Columbia (1999–2005). He has also served as a pastor for several years (1994-1998) and is the author of several books.

With the release of Son of God (2014), Noah (2014) and the more recent Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014), the biblical story continues to be a source of ethical intrigue, repulsion and conviction. How are we to navigate? Does “Batman” (Christian Bale) really make the best “Moses”?

The Bible and Cinema, a course offered during May Term 2015, aims to chart a way through this sea of concerns and find a destination of honest dialogue, delicious snacks and a field trip to the movies!
