Tree of Life Bookstores rep visits campus this afternoon

This is a reminder that a representative from Tree of Life Bookstores will visit campus today (Tuesday) to participate in an open-forum Q&A session to answer questions about the company. Tree of Life Bookstores is one of the companies the university is considering to meet its future bookstore needs.

The session is scheduled in the Greenroom from noon to 2:30 p.m. and again from 3 to 4 p.m. These Q&A sessions will be set up on a first-come, first-served drop-in basis.

Bookstore reps on campus today and tomorrow

As we consider the future of our campus store, we have invited two companies to campus to share their capabilities and vision to help meet our needs. Representatives from Follett and Tree of Life Bookstores will visit campus today (Monday) and tomorrow. On both afternoons they will participate in an open-forum Q&A session to answer questions about their companies.

Reminder: Blood drive is Thursday

It’s blood drive time! To sign up and schedule an appointment, go to redcrossblood.org.

Once on the site, find the George Fox blood drive by searching with the ZIP code (97132) or sponsor code (GeorgeFox). Click either George Fox blood drive (Villa Academic Complex Room 117 or Red Cross bus). Sign into your account or register to create one, then schedule an appointment and confirm!

The drive will be from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 2. Remember to eat breakfast and drink plenty of water, and be sure to bring your ID! The event is hosted by the university’s Nursing Club.

Sign up for Front Desk Safety and Security Seminar

Are you someone who either mans a front desk in your department, or have a work area that is easily accessible by the public? Do you know what to do in a dangerous situation, emergency or when difficult people approach you?

If you feel that your skill set in these areas is lacking, please consider attending the Front Desk Safety and Security training put on by Code4 in Salem on Thursday, April 23. Those who attended this seminar in December felt that they gained valuable information and also now feel better prepared to deal with threatening situations.

The cost is only $99, and up to half of that could be reimbursed for staff from the Staff Development Fund as long as money is left in the fund.

Wineskin Submissions Due Friday, March 27

The Wineskin, the university’s student literary and art magazine, is still accepting submissions for the Spring 2015 issue. If you are a writer or artist/photographer, this is a great chance to get your work published in a journal, and to put on your resume. We are asking for:

Prose: 1,500-word limit, must be a stand-alone piece (not a chapter out of a book)
Poetry: Three-submission limit
Photography: Please include title and send a 300 dpi file; five-submission limit
Art: Include 300 dpi image

Not all pieces will be selected, but feel free to submit your best work by Friday, March 27, at midnight.

Student Loan Repayment Workshop sessions scheduled

As graduation nears, so does the reality of student loan repayment. For many students, loan repayment can be confusing and frustrating.

That is why the financial aid office is offering a Student Loan Repayment Workshop to all graduating students. The sessions will be held on the Newberg campus and will cover topics such as how to afford your loan payments, what to do if you can’t and information on loan forgiveness.
