Do you love to serve? Does volunteering for the larger vision of Martin Luther King Jr. inspire you? How about in Portland?
Your chance to get involved with our neighboring community is finally here, with the opportunity to be a part of MLK Day of Service in Portland!
MLK Day of Service is a day we are able to live into this vision Dr. King had for serving and justice. Though one day of service is never enough to fully celebrate him or what he stood for, we hope you are able to join us for this day of service and recognition of Dr. King.
MLK Day of Service takes place on Monday, Jan. 18. You can register and find more information about what the day will look like here.

A group of George Fox students are doing their part to feed members of the Newberg community as the weather gets colder. Teaming up with Subterra, a restaurant in town, students are helping create a community “Group Soup” program that both embodies community spirit and promotes the arts.
Students in Mark Terry’s ceramics classes will create bowls that will be filled with soup and served with home-baked breads in Francis Square in downtown Newberg during First Friday Art Walks in February, March and April. Next week (Dec. 13-19), Subterra is donating 25 percent of its gross proceeds during lunchtime as seed money to buy raw product and launch the program.
Downtown meals will be given away at no cost, or on a pay-what-you-want model for those wishing to donate to the future of the program. Ceramic bowls will be available for purchase, with proceeds dedicated to sustaining the program, or patrons can get their soup in disposable bowls.
Art Walks are held from about 5 to 8 p.m. the first Friday of each month with the exception of January.
For more information, contact Terry at mterry@georgefox.edu.
