In the event of a campus- or city-wide emergency such as a severe winter storm, flood or major earthquake, employees, students and visitors to George Fox should be prepared to keep safe and possibly assist in recovery. Therefore, we are providing life-saving C-CERT training for any and all interested persons.
In an effort to make it easier for more people to participate, we are doing a hybrid course of online instruction combined with lunch-hour training once a week to build knowledge and skills as a CERT member. The weekly meetings will be every Tuesday starting Feb. 2 and last from noon to 1 p.m.
For more information and to sign up, go to the security services webpage.

Join us for the second Liberal Arts and Critical Issues lecture of the semester this Monday, Feb. 1, when independent scholar Laura Gifford speaks on the topic “God’s Own Party or Grand Old Phantasm? Contemplating the Growth of the Religious Right” in Hoover 105. The same presentation will be made from 5 to 6 p.m. and from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The history of Christian, and especially evangelical Christian, involvement in the nation’s political, social, and economic life since the 1960s is far more complex than contemporary stereotypes might indicate. Gifford will share narratives of evangelicals’ engagement with war, the economy, and abortion that may complicate our understanding of Christianity and politics.
The theme for this semester’s LACI series is “Christianity and Pop Culture.” For more information, contact Laurie Fair at lfair@georgefox.edu.

Do you know a student who may benefit – or have family members that may benefit – from access to fresh produce as well as staple foods (rice, pasta, tortillas, canned vegetables, etc.)?
If so, keep Newberg FISH in mind as a resource. FISH provides food assistance in a respectful way to all those who come in and voice a need. They have a rule that they never turn anyone away.
To be eligible for a full food basket (with USDA food) there are some basic income restrictions, and a student must live in Newberg or Dundee. However, even students who do not meet these standards are eligible to receive the non-USDA food selection available at FISH.
A student simply needs to take a piece of his or her mail to the office. No Social Security numbers or intrusive personal details are collected. All FISH materials are available in English and Spanish.
To learn more about FISH, visit their website at newbergfish.org or write info@newbergfish.org. The office is located at 125-A S. Elliott Road in Newberg.
