Feeling incredibly stressed at this point in the semester? Realize you haven’t had time to reflect on your journey from bewildered freshman to slightly more impressive adult? Are you curious what your life will look like after graduation, spiritually and vocationally? If you are a senior (93 credits +) and need some space for any of these things, you are invited to Senior Retreat!

SpIL and ASC are gladly hosting an overnight retreat dedicated exclusively to the senior class … a place for community, relaxation and conversations that truly matter as we prepare for graduation and life after Fox.

Senior Retreat will be Saturday and Sunday, April 9-10, at the Canby Grove Christian Center, just 30 minutes outside of Newberg. Be sure to register online at this link to reserve your spot! Cost is only $12, and payments will be accepted after spring break.

Happy spring break! Square 1 will be on at its normal time tonight (Friday) at 6 p.m. in the Foxhole. Since there probably won’t be a ton of people, we’re just going to have a relaxed hangout time playing games and music and enjoying each other’s company. Feel free to bring a friend!

Spoken Word is back! Join the Latino Heritage Club on Wednesday, March 30, at 8:30 p.m. in Hoover 105. The event will take place during Cesar Chavez week.

The theme for the night is “I am Because we are | Soy Porque Somos.”

Similar to past events, performers can interpret this however they’d like. The poem can be centered around healing, community, unity, social justice, reconciliation and more. The late Alan Rickman (known well for his role as Professor Snape) has said, “It’s a human need to be told stories.” Stories are a powerful tool that excite our imagination, shape our identities, and bring us hope.

Whether told through the mediums of book or film, stories deeply impact us. With the release of Son of God (2014), Noah (2014), Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014) and the most recent Risen (2016) and The Young Messiah (2016), the biblical story continues to powerfully shape society, the church and the film industry.

A May Term course, “The Bible and Cinema,” will involve discussion of movies and dialogue about some intriguing theological topics such as the afterlife (heaven, hell, angels and demons), community, redemption, violence and forgiveness. We are looking forward to seeing you at the movies!

Join us for a panel discussion as we explore the current refugee crisis, trends and causes of migration, the nature of international borders, and a diversity of responses including aid, advocacy, movement building and policy reform.

Sponsored by the School of Social Work and the Center for Peace and Justice, the event is set from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight (Thursday) in Hoover 105 on the Newberg campus.

The year 2015 saw a surge of displaced persons from Syria and the Middle East on a global scale, and the nature of international borders within the United States continues to be a topic of contention, particularly in relationship to the global south. What wisdom and tools may help us face this crisis? What intersecting issues are at play? What does it mean to welcome the stranger?

• Marco Mejia, a long-time social justice activist, popular educator, community organizer and coalition builder. Marco is on the board of the Interfaith Movement for Immigrant Justice, was a previous staff organizer with Portland Jobs with Justice and resides in Portland
• Ana Vella (Robles) Magana, George Fox University School of Social Work alumna and immigration counselor at Lutheran Community Services Northwest

Bon Appetit’s hours of operation for spring break are as follows:

Weekend Hours
Hours of operation in the dining room will change this weekend due to the break. On Friday, March 18, breakfast and lunch are normal hours, and dinner is from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday, March 19, breakfast will be from 8:30 to 9 a.m. and is our last board meal before the break. Meals resume on Sunday, March 27, with dinner from 5 to 7 p.m.

Bruin Bites, Bruin Den & Villa Café
The Bruin Bites will be closed on Friday, March 18, and will remain closed through spring break. The Bruin Den and Villa Café will be closing at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 18, and will also be closed through spring break. All three cafes will resume regular hours of operation on Monday, March 28.

Klages Dining Room
The Klages Dining Room will be open for lunch Monday, March 21, through Thursday, March 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The lunch price will be $5 (cash sales only, please).
