Fighting poverty is big business, but who profits the most? Join the American Enterprise Institute and the College of Business this Thursday, March, 31, for a screening of Poverty, Inc. at 7 p.m. in Hoover 105.

This film examines issues ranging from TOMS Shoes to international adoptions, from solar panels to U.S. agricultural subsidies and challenges each of us to ask the tough question: Could I be part of the problem?

The IDEA Center is seeking Fox students to join our amazing team for next year. Internship positions are available in the areas of marketing, event planning, graphic design and employer relations. We will also be adding a career curriculum intern to support the IDEA Center’s new “Career Courses” piloting this fall!

As an intern in our office, you will develop a professional-level portfolio which includes project management experience, event execution, branding and marketing campaigns. There is also the opportunity to develop your professional network with the many employers and alumni who interface with IDEA Center programming.

These internships are now posted on Bruin Careers, with an application deadline of April 7. Your initial application will require you to submit your LinkedIn URL, and we recommend connecting with a Career Coach if your profile needs polishing.

If you are graduating this April, you are invited to stop by the Exodus Grad Fair tomorrow or Thursday (March 30 or 31) between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the Stevens Center Atrium.

You will have the opportunity to:

• Pick up your cap and gown
• Meet with Jostens to order graduation announcements, class rings, etc.
• Meet with student financial services to finalize any changes to your student account
• Join the George Fox Alumni Association
• Enjoy some free food and refreshments
• Update the address were you would like your diploma sent

Mr. Darwin’s Tree, the acclaimed British one-man play about the life and work of Charles Darwin, will be performed at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, in Wood-Mar Auditorium. Produced by Scholarship and Christianity in Oxford (SCIO) and sponsored by George Fox’s science and religion clubs, the play aims to enhance the conversation on science and religion.

Written by noted playwright and director Murray Watts (The Miracle Maker, KJB: The Book that Changed the World, The Dream) and starring British film, TV and theatre actor Andrew Harrison (Dorian Gray, Miss Marple, Beyond Narnia), Mr. Darwin’s Tree presents a very human and very real Charles Darwin, one who wrestled with the challenges that his theories posed for traditional beliefs.

It also presents Darwin’s wife, Emma, as an intelligent and articulate representative of Christian faith. In doing so, the play rejects the “straw man” effigies of Darwin presented by both his extreme protagonists and antagonists, providing the opportunity for lively engagement, thoughtful conversations and fresh explorations.

The performance will mark the play’s first tour of the U.S. since it first premiered in 2009 at Westminster Abbey in England. The April 21 show will be followed by a reception and discussion with the playwright and leading campus academics.

Bon Appetit proudly supports farm workers throughout the United States. This week we want to showcase portraits of farm workers that pick and process much of the produce that we eat on a daily basis.

We will have a station set up all week long in the Bruin Den and by the salad bar in Klages for you to experience and read about farm workers and the farm industry.

All are welcome to the final Liberal Arts and Critical Issues lecture tonight (Monday), when Rev. Peter Eberle, a Benedictine monk at Mount Angel Abbey and Seminary, speaks on the topic “Is the Benedictine Option Benedictine?” in Hoover 105. The same presentation will be made from 5 to 6 p.m. and from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Rod Dreher, an American conservative Christian, has proposed the “Benedict Option” as a response to our contemporary secular culture. Rev. Eberle will explore the proposed option and, describing and drawing from his own experience as a Benedictine monk, will consider whether the option is “Benedictine.” What are the similarities? What are the differences?

We are receiving many complaints from the neighbors surrounding George Fox about students parking in the neighborhoods. Just a reminder that there is to be no parking in the neighborhoods around George Fox unless you live within the Good Neighbor Zone and are displaying a Neighborhood Permit.

Please park only in the George Fox lots and areas where your permit allows. Contact security if you have questions about where your permit allows you to park, or review the parking brochure on the security webpages.
