In theaters now: ‘The Bible and Cinema’ May Term course

March 17th, 2016

The late Alan Rickman (known well for his role as Professor Snape) has said, “It’s a human need to be told stories.” Stories are a powerful tool that excite our imagination, shape our identities, and bring us hope.

Whether told through the mediums of book or film, stories deeply impact us. With the release of Son of God (2014), Noah (2014), Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014) and the most recent Risen (2016) and The Young Messiah (2016), the biblical story continues to powerfully shape society, the church and the film industry.

A May Term course, “The Bible and Cinema,” will involve discussion of movies and dialogue about some intriguing theological topics such as the afterlife (heaven, hell, angels and demons), community, redemption, violence and forgiveness. We are looking forward to seeing you at the movies!

Jenny and Art Matheny will serve as instructors. Classes will meet in Hoover 208 from 9 a.m. to noon daily between May 2-20. For more information, contact Paula Hampton at phampton@georgefox.edu or ext. 2650.
