The archives has decommissioned a few hundred legal-sized hanging file folders. They are in great shape but were no longer needed after our remodel. If anyone on campus can use them, please let Rachel Thomas know at rthomas@georgefox.edu or ext. 2415.

Don’t forget today’s Canyon Commons celebration event

Bon Appetit and the president’s office invite all employees and work-study students to join them for a mini-celebration of the opening of the Bridge Cafe and the new Canyon Commons dining hall.

Join us from 8 to 8:30 a.m. today (Monday) for the celebration. Free coffee will be provided in the Bridge Cafe and in the dining area’s main cafe, and pastries will be served as well. Denny also invites the campus community to stop by the Canyon Commons from noon to 12:30 p.m. this afternoon to enjoy some free food samples (not lunch) being prepared in the walk station in the main dining area.

The main opening/inauguration will be on Wednesday, Aug. 17, but President Robin Baker and Bon Appetit’s Denny Lawrence thought it would be fun to have an early celebration. We hope you can join us!

Guest Wi-Fi access is changing

Invite your university guests at the Portland Center that need Wi-Fi access to use the new Bruin-Guest wireless network. Their mobile devices (phones, tablets, and laptops) can get internet access with a pass-code sent to their phone via text or to an email address. Simply connect and register on the Bruin-Guest wireless network.

George Fox students, faculty, and staff should continue to use the Bruin-Secure wireless network. The older foxpublic wireless network will be turned off this Monday, June 6.

Bridge Café hosts grand opening on Monday

Join us on Monday, June 6, for the opening of the new Bridge Café in the Canyon Commons! You are invited to enjoy complimentary coffee and pastries in the Bridge Café from 8 to 8:30 a.m. during our grand opening.

During lunch, we’ll be sampling delicious bites from our fire pit in the Canyon Commons between noon and 12:30 p.m. The Bridge Café is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the summer.

Update on Turnitin for FoxTALE assignments

June 2nd, 2016

All testing of FoxTALE assignments using Turnitin show that processing of submissions is restored. Faculty and students can access Originality reports. We are continuing to work with Turnitin on the default settings for any new regular FoxTALE assignments when enabling Turnitin. Until this issue is resolved, we recommend you use the settings shown in our guide when enabling Turnitin in your assignment.

Important year-end information for those using university Visa cards

June 1st, 2016

With the end of our fiscal year quickly approaching, and to ensure a clean cut-off between 2015/16 and 2016/17 spending, the last day to use your Visa card for current fiscal year purchases is Friday, June 24. Please refrain from using your card for any purchases after this date.

If you will be traveling for business during this time, please contact Matt Hammar or Kathi Becker to discuss arrangements on how to handle travel after June 24. Credit card purchases for the 2016/17 fiscal year can begin on or after July 1. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Matt at ext 2162 or Kathi at ext. 2166.

Registering formal student complaints

While most student concerns and complaints can and should be resolved informally, there is a formal general complaint procedure described in the “Support for Students” section of the Undergraduate Student Handbook as well as on the Graduate/DPS Policies page of the website.

Please note that these procedures cover complaints of a general nature and do not supersede specific policies involving special cases such as grade appeals, sexual harassment, etc., which are covered elsewhere in the Student Handbook, catalog or Graduate/DPS Policies.

Bon Appetit hosts barbecue on the quad today

Come over and join us for lunch today (Wednesday)! We are firing up the grill and barbecuing hamburgers and garden burgers with all the trimmings! We will also have salads, chips, dessert and freshly brewed iced tea, all for $6.75. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Meal plan options for Fall 2016

Starting the fall 2016 semester, new meal plan options will be available to students. Please check out the Meal Plan Options page for detailed information about the new meal plans and our meal plan policies.

The meal plan form will be available in MyGFU, in “University Forms,” starting Wednesday, June 15. You must select your meal plan no later than June 27, 2016.

Students living on campus in the fall who do not select their meal plan by June 27 will have the lowest meal plan they are eligible for applied to their account by student life. Students living off campus who do not choose a meal plan by June 27 will be given the “No Meal Plan.”

However, students who are eligible to do so may make changes to their meal plan until Friday, Sept. 9.

Tree removal happening in the quad this week

May 30th, 2016

Plant Services will be removing several trees from the area around Minthorn Hall between May 31 and June 3. For your safety, please respect the boundaries set up. We will be selling the wood from these trees on a first-come, first-served basis. Firewood will be $150 per cord and must be picked up no later than Monday, June 6.
