If you’ve ever wanted to be in a parade, this is your opportunity! George Fox has been asked to provide the grand marshal for this summer’s Newberg Old Fashioned Festival Parade, scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday) from 9 to 11 a.m.
It’s the start of our 125th year, and we want to recognize the people who have helped us get this far … our employees and students. This is your invitation to be one of the grand marshals for the parade.
We’re assembling a group of employees, students, parents and alumni to walk and hand out candy. It’ll probably take less than 20 minutes of walking. Some spots will be available for riding and waving. We’ll also have the Bruin bus, Professor Ed Higgins’ 1934 Ford flatbed truck, the Bruin bear (“Pennington”) and the Victory Bell.
Feel free to join us. We’ll meet at Newberg’s Renne Field (Blaine and 6th) at 9 a.m. We may even have some free T-shirts still available. Click this link for more info.

The IDEA Center is introducing a great new tool that will help make your student worker recruiting efforts easier, faster and more effective. Handshake is replacing Bruin Careers, offering a high-tech/high-touch tool for students seeking jobs and internships.
Create your profile now to put your on-campus job opportunities front and center. Check out the Handshake Help Center to learn how to post a job and reach out to students directly. All students will be re-routed to the new system starting on Aug. 8.
New features that were not available in Bruin Careers:
- Mobile app for students and employers (find on App Store under “Handshake Mobile”)
- Increased student personalization and engagement (think of a personalized Pinterest board where opportunities shown match a student’s major, skills and interests)
- Easy identification of well-qualified students for your hiring needs
Kaitlyn Ragan will deliver a training at the on-campus supervisor meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 3, at 9 a.m. in Lemmons 8. This will be a great time to learn how to use and maximize this tool in your department.
We encourage you to take this opportunity to rework your current job descriptions, keeping in mind to be creative and “sell” your position in order to catch the attention of our George Fox millennials. The IDEA Center can provide a copy of your previous Bruin Career postings if you don’t have them on file, as well as answer any questions about this transition.
