Today (Thursday) is the last day to sign up for Fall Retreat! The retreat is Nov. 11-13 at Twin Rocks on the coast, and the cost is $30. Come engage in sessions that lead us to experience the fullness of God’s love.

Join us as we watch the movie War Don Don and discuss the complexities of international justice and individual accountability in instances of war. The film will be shown at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, at the Chehalem Cultural Center, 415 E. Sheridan St.

The School of Physical Therapy has added a healthy cooking class demonstration that will coincide with its Health and Wellness Clinic on Thursday, Nov. 17, in the Roberts Center. There are two sessions – at 5:10 p.m. and 6:10 p.m. Each session will last 30 to 35 minutes.

The Social Work Club is hosting a panel of speakers from Home PDX and Love INC Newberg tonight (Thursday) to discuss the issue of poverty and homelessness in Newberg and Portland. Do you ever wonder what you can do to help with poverty and homelessness? We are going to be discussing some ways that we can make a difference!

The music department welcomes the campus community to “An Evening of Jazz” concert tomorrow (Friday) at 7:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium. Featured will be jazz saxophonist Dave Pietro, who will perform with the George Fox University Jazz Ensemble and Faculty Trio.

Dave is a current member of the Grammy Award-winning Maria Schneider Orchestra and has released six CDs as a leader. He has performed with Woody Herman, Lionel Hampton, Maynard Ferguson, Harry Connick Jr. and countless other jazz luminaries.

We are honored to welcome Father Ivan Petrine to celebrate Mass for the George Fox Catholic community today (Thursday) at 11:30 a.m. in Canyon Commons 101.

Father Ivan is a native of Argentina and director of the St. John Society, a congregation of priests and laity committed to evangelizing high school and college students. He also serves as the director of the Newman Centers (Catholic Campus Ministries) at both Oregon State and Portland State universities.

Lunch will be served following Mass, with an opportunity to learn more about Father Ivan’s ministry. All are welcome to attend. Please R.S.V.P. to Rob Bohall at rbohall@georgefox.edu (we will need a head count for lunch). This is a chapel elective for students.

If you want to take part in tough conversations revolving around race, faith and diversity, then consider applying to become a Cultural Ambassador. This unique student leadership opportunity is open only for six to 10 students who are seeking to be culturally engaged and who have a desire to see change take place on their own campus.

The skills acquired through this intensive training are recognized as being indispensable in the workplace (of all fields). In addition to training with your peers on a weekly basis, students involved in the program will be attending the SCORR (Student Congress of Racial Reconciliation Conference) in February at Biola University.

Come learn from jazz saxophonist Dave Pietro as he presents a jazz master class today (Thursday) from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. in Ross 208. Some social work seniors are putting on an event to advocate for ending mental health stigmas. All are welcome to join us in the Student Union Building outside of the ASC office today (Thursday) from 11 a.m. to noon.

We want to inform our fellow students of a specific mental illness, schizophrenia. There will be a small activity for those who would like to participate for a few minutes. Please stop by and get some information on a very important issue in our world!

Paul Anderson will conduct a turning of the page session tomorrow (Friday) on Volume 1 of The Saint John’s Bible (Pentateuch). Come and “see the Word” as the biblical message comes to life in this historic illuminated Bible.

The session runs from 4 to 4:30 p.m. in the MLRC.

The George Fox University School of Nursing is sending a group of students to Kenya! Come eat some authentic Kenyan food (catered by the lovely Grace Kuto) and learn about the trip! The dinner will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, at North Valley Friends Church (4020 N. College St.).

Grace is a member of Tigard Community Friends Church and the president/co-founder of the Harambee Centre in Chwele. She is a  native of Kenya whose village is near the clinics where we will serve. She will share some thoughts about the status of health care in rural Kenya.

The students will also share about what they will be doing in Kenya and what they are excited for. Each student is trying to earn $3,350 to pay for transportation and medical supplies.
