There will be one more opportunity this term for you to have your photo retaken for the website or for professional use. These are high-quality studio portraits suitable for professional promotional use.

The new studio in Pennington House (where University Relations is located) will be open Monday, April 21, and Thursday, April 24, from 2 to 4 p.m. for employees who would like a new photo. There will not be another opportunity until the fall, so don’t miss your chance. The studio is set up upstairs at the end of the hall.

If you would like a new photo to appear in the Bruin Directory next year, you need to have your photo retaken in Institutional Technology on the third floor of the Stevens Center. Go to IT and request a retake.

Thursday, May 8, President Robin Baker will be at the Portland Center in Room 155, 3:30 to 5 p.m. to present employee recognition awards and to give an update on the strategic planning workgroups.

All Portland Center employees are encouraged to attend. This gives employees from the Portland Center a chance to attend in lieu of the Employee recognition ceremony and reception in Newberg on May 7.

Refreshments will be provided.

A farewell reception for Tom Johnson (Religious Studies) is scheduled from 2 to 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in the John and Marilyn Duke Atrium in the Stevens Center. Tom is retiring from the university after serving in various capacities at George Fox the past 11 years. He and his wife Michele are moving to Whidbey Island, Wash., in their retirement.

The Faculty Development Committee is hosting a Faculty Research Forum featuring Neal Ninteman and Gary Spivey (Engineering) at 10:45 a.m. Friday, April 18, in Hoover 105. Neal and Gary will present “Servant Engineering: Offering Cups of Cold Water (and other cool things) in Jesus’ Name.”

Engineering will host its second annual Engineering Expo on Friday, April 18, in EHS. From  3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Ron Gregory Atrium,  engineering class project presentations will be on exhibit.

Then, from 4:30 to 6 p.m., industry-sponsored senior design presentations will be showcased in EHS 102. Featured will be a dry food products automated seasoner for PPM Technologies and a ruggedized portable thermal printer for Tripod Data Systems. Refreshments will be provided.

The MBA program seeks a temporary administrative assistant to work for the next few weeks at the Portland Center until a replacement for Jan Thomas can be hired. If you know of someone who might be a good fit for this job, please have the person contact Peggy Kilburg by e-mail pkilburg@georgefox.edu or phone (554-2182).  The department would like to find someone who can work full time, but may consider less than full time help.

The HR office will closed most of this week as we begin our PeopleSoft training and implementation work.  The office will be open Monday, April 14th until 3:00 p.m.  It will be open only one hour each day Tues. (15th), Wed. (16th) and Thurs. (17th), between 4:00 and 5:00.  We will be open as usual on Friday, April 18th.  We regret the inconvenience, but appreciate your understanding and patience.

The Portland Center Library is pleased to have on-location watercolors by Gary Buhler on display.

Gary Buhler is an Assistant Professor of Art at George Fox University. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from Western Oregon University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Arizona, Tucson.

Gary’s watercolors portray Northwest scenes of rivers, riverbanks, waterfalls and surrounding landscapes painted in rich blues, greens, and golds with bright white representing the rippling and splashing water.

Come by and take a long look or slip in for a quick peek.

Join faculty, students, and staff on Wednesday (April 16) 2-3:15 p.m. in celebrating the contribution of Tom Johnson, who has served for the last 11 years at George Fox University. He has filled the roles as interim president, seminary dean, and professor of biblical theology. Tom and Michele will be moving to Whidbey Island in their retirement. Their presence among us will be greatly missed.

Come to the Duke Atrium in Stevens Center for sharing, music, refreshments and fellowship.

Jan Thomas, administrative assistant for the School of Management’s MBA programs, will be resigning as of April 15 to move to Segway, Alaska, to take a position as an office manager for a tour company.

Please join us in the Portland Center lobby for her farewell reception on Monday, April 14, from 2 to 2:30 p.m. to wish her well.

The final staff lunch of the semester is set for noon Monday, April 14, in the Cap and Gown Room. In addition to the food and fellowship, entertainment will be provided by singer Jelani Greenidge. There also will be door prizes. The cost is $3.

What are you planning to do with your summer? Faculty responses to such a query typically range from research to relaxing. Come share your summer plans and hear from others about how they use their summer to further their calling as educators and scholars.

A Faculty Teaching Forum, “Summer Reading, Writing, and Renewal,” is set from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in the Executive Dining Room on the Newberg campus.

Guiding questions will be used to help in planning your summer activities. If you’re interested, read Don’t Waste Your Summer and Finally, Some Time for … in advance of the session.

A seminar, “Preparing to Buy Your First Home,” will be presented from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 14, in EHS 102. Presented by Northwest Lending Solutions, the seminar will help clear up some of the myths about buying a house. Attendees also will have a chance to win an iPod Shuffle, and free pizza and drinks will be served.
