Theatre production ‘The Servant of Two Masters’ opens Thursday

This is a reminder that the university’s fall play, The Servant of Two Masters, begins tonight (Thursday) and runs the next two weekends (Oct. 25-28 and Oct. 28 to Nov. 4). Be sure to go over to Pennington House/Box Office to pick up your complimentary ticket and join us for this delightful comedy!

Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. each night with the exception of the two Sunday performances, which start at 2 p.m. in Wood-Mar Auditorium. If you need additional tickets, they can be purchased online at theatre.georgefox.edu or by calling 503-554-3844.

Plenty of events are planned for Homecoming and Family Weekend

Don’t forget Homecoming and Family Weekend this weekend (Oct. 26-28)! Among the activities planned is a Homecoming Coronation & Variety Show scheduled for Friday, Oct. 26, from 8 to 10 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium. This event will feature entertainment from students, alumni and families and will include the presentation and crowning of the homecoming court.

Also planned is a Barbecue Tailgate Party Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. at the Austin Sports Complex, featuring food, games, inflatables and more. Class reunions, faculty lectures, an Auxiliary Bazaar, concerts and theatre’s production of The Servant of Two Masters are also part of the weekend.

Come hear Bob Moore of Bob’s Red Mill Products today

Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend a public lecture with Bob Moore of Bob’s Red Mill products at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) in Hoover 105 on the Newberg campus.

Bob with his wife, Charlee, opened a one-of-a-kind business in an old mill building near historic Oregon City in 1978 to provide healthy grain products using stone-grinding flour mills. On Feb. 15, 2010, Bob’s 81st birthday, Bob surprised his employees by giving them total ownership of Bob’s Red Mill through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan.

Today, the employee-owned business is located in Milwaukie, Ore., and produces thousands of products for store shelves in 71 countries around the world. Come hear Bob share from his book, People Before Profit, and receive an inspiring story from the man behind this flourishing business.

Doug Campbell presents faculty lecture tonight

Don’t forget to turn out for tonight’s (Tuesday’s) fall faculty lecture, to be presented by Professor of Art Doug Campbell, in Hoover 105.

The event will begin with a 5 p.m. reception and presentation by Richter Scholar students. Then, at 5:30 p.m., Doug will present “Confessions of a Non-Specialist,” in which he will discuss his studio art, exhibit and writing activities. Doug was named recipient of the Undergraduate Faculty Achievement Award for Research and Scholarship in 2012.

‘Seminary Fair Plus’ is today on Newberg campus

Don’t forget the “Seminary Fair Plus” on the Newberg campus today (Tuesday) in the atrium of the Hoover Academic Building. The event is designed for those interested in pursuing religious or professional higher education.

The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Representatives from a variety of seminaries as well as George Fox graduate programs will be available to connect with prospective students who desire to be equipped for ministry or professional education.

Holiday event raises money for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Bon Appetit has set a goal to reach a $3,000 donation for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. One of the many projects we have planned is an opportunity for you to get a jump-start on your holiday preparations while donating to this worthy charity.

Before the holiday season gets too busy, take some time out to join us for an afternoon of everything holiday! The projects will include gift tags, gift bags, gift card holders, a Christmas banner, a Christmas ornament, and gifts to make for friends or co-workers.

Bon Appetit will provide snacks and music to add to the festivities. Bring a friend, sister, daughter or mom. Reservations will close when the 30th person gets their payment to Wendy Meinhardt. Reservations and payment must be made by Saturday, Oct. 27, so there is time to order supplies.

Start: 1-5 p.m. (or sooner if you finish all the projects early)

Plant Services: Project request procedures have changed

The Project Request procedures have been changed. A rationale defending the project and signatures of the department head, building monitor, and VP/provost are all required on the submittal form. Cost Center and account number must also be included.

Plant Services is first and foremost a maintenance organization. A project will be scheduled in deference to critical maintenance needs. The schedule for your project must be flexible to accommodate these needs. If you can agree with these requirements, we would be happy to accommodate your project.

When the form has been signed and returned, a project manager will be assigned and will generate an estimate. Signatures will then be obtained from the Plant Services director and the chief financial officer.

Complimentary tickets to university events available at box office

George Fox University faculty and staff members (.5 and above) may receive one complimentary ticket for each regularly scheduled theatre show and music department event. This ticket is valid for any performance.

Employees may reserve their tickets by coming to the box office located in its new location in the Pennington House. These tickets are transferable and may be given to another patron.

Box office hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you have questions, call the box office at 503-554-3844.

The support staff conference is next week, on Tuesday, Oct. 23. Our keynote speaker, Christopher Meade, director of the MBA programs, will speak on the topic “Anchor Deep.”

This nautical-themed conference will stop at two “ports of call” of your choice. Support staff are already pre-registered for the conference, but please complete a registration form at this link – Staff Fall Conference Registration – if you haven’t done so already. The selections for choosing your port of call are on this form, as well as indication for any dietary restrictions.

The conference will take place from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Family Life Church in Newberg. The church is located at 502 St. Paul Highway.

‘The Servant of Two Masters’ opens next week in Wood-Mar Auditorium

The university’s theatre season kicks off next Thursday, Oct. 25, with a fall comedy, The Servant of Two Masters by Carlo Goldoni. The show runs for two weekends, Oct. 25-27 and Nov. 1-3 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 28 and Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. All shows are scheduled in Wood-Mar Auditorium.

All George Fox students may receive a complimentary ticket for Thursday evening performances. All faculty and staff are entitled to one complimentary ticket for any show of the run.

Play Description: This celebrated comic masterpiece, written in 1743 in the great Italian tradition of Commedia Dell’Arte, tells the story of Truffaldino, a young, simpleminded and occasionally clever servant who finds himself in over his head when he impulsively agrees to manage two masters at the same time without either of them knowing about it. The play also features two pairs of swooning lovers, two angry fathers, and a host of additional simpleminded servants.

Long-term care insurance meetings scheduled this week

Long-term care insurance information meetings are scheduled Tuesday through Friday this week.

  • The first meeting is at the Portland Center on Tuesday (Oct. 16) at 9 a.m. in Room 281.
  • On Wednesday (Oct. 17), there will be two meetings on the Newberg campus, one at 10:30 a.m. in VAC 180 and the other at 2 p.m. in the Executive Dining Room.
  • Webinars and two more Newberg campus meetings are scheduled throughout the week as well. Please click here for the details.
