Gary Kilburg retirement celebration set for Monday, May 5

Monday, April 21st, 2014

All university employees are invited to celebrate with us as we honor retiring Gary Kilburg with a reception on Monday, May 5, in the Villa Academic Complex’s Room 117. The event will run from 4 to 6 p.m.

Throughout Gary’s career, he has modeled professionalism, kindness, and the love of Christ to his colleagues and students. He has served the university family for 22 years, taking on leadership roles and forming foundational work in the area of mentoring for the College of Education. His teaching has regularly set the standard for young professors, modeling for each one of us what it means to be an effective educator. His students often remark on the care Gary’s teaching demonstrates.

Gary earned the Graduate Faculty Member of the Year award in 2006-2007. He has mentored teachers and administrators in both public and private schools. His door is always open and both students and faculty often find themselves slipping into his office for a bit of calm, thoughtful advice. He will be missed more than he can possibly know.

Please join us in celebrating Gary’s work with us and wishing him well in retirement.

Monday, April 21st, 2014

She joined the MAT team in 2005 and worked to give us a strong foundation in the Redmond area. Her work is marked by warm, personal touches that allow each student and faculty member to be truly known.

While directing the MAT team in Redmond, Shary worked on internationalizing teacher education. She is part of a writing team and has several publications to her credit. She traveled with students to Vienna, Austria, to work in schools and at a refugee center.

Shary is all about teaching. She has been instrumental in teaching and supporting the 110-plus George Fox-trained teachers who are serving in Central Oregon schools. Her laughter, wisdom and kindness will be missed.

Please join us in celebrating the work of Shary and wishing her well in her retirement.

Call for stationery orders

Thursday, April 17th, 2014

Please plan now for the institution-wide stationery order taken at the end of August. The collective order helps keep costs low – the higher the volume, the lower the cost. Consequently, it is most economical to overestimate needs and store a small surplus.

I will be accepting orders from now through Monday, Aug. 18, when orders are due.

For order instructions, go to the marketing communications website. Continue to purchase all non-departmental stationery (including “second-sheet letterhead”) through the university’s print services.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you,
Danette Newkirk (dnewkirk@georgefox.edu)
