FoxTALE Reminders for Start of Semester

Sunday, August 26th, 2018

FoxTALE was recently upgraded, and you will see some changes when you first log into FoxTALE to see your list of courses. The default homepage is your dashboard and shows a course overview page listing your course sites in either a “timeline” view or “courses” view. The courses view shows your courses divided in three tabs: In Progress, Future and Past. Courses are listed here according to start dates and end dates. Organization of Courses (video, 1:19)

Because not all courses have the same start date, you may need to adjust your course start or end date. To learn more, view the guide FoxTALE Course Overview.

Use your new, empty course sites as the sites in which you will teach. You may import content from another course site. See the instructions here for importing.

You may need to add sections to your course home page: Manage Course Sections

All course sites are initially created hidden from student view. When you are ready, you can make your course site visible to your enrolled students. Here is a guide on how to make your course visible: FoxTALE Making Courses Visible to Students.

Remember that all students enrolled in your class in MyGFU will automatically be enrolled in your FoxTALE course site. As students add and drop your course in MyGFU, they will be added or removed automatically from your FoxTALE site.

Metacourses may be used in special cases where you want to use one FoxTALE site for multiple sections of the same class. If you would like to use a metacourse, contact the Service Desk for assistance with setting them up.

Visit the FoxTALE for Faculty webpage for guides and resources.

Call for stationery orders

Tuesday, August 14th, 2018

Now is the time to order university stationery. The collective order helps keep costs low – the higher the volume, the lower the cost. Consequently, it is most economical to overestimate needs and store a small surplus.

I will be accepting orders through Wednesday, Aug. 22. For order instructions, go to the marketing communications website. Continue to purchase all non-departmental stationery (including “second-sheet letterhead”) through the university’s Office of Print Services.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you,
– Danette Newkirk (dnewkirk@georgefox.edu)

All George Fox employees are entitled to free entry into the uncovered general admission bleachers at home football games when they show their George Fox ID at the gate. Children under 10 are also admitted for free. Additional tickets can be purchased at the gate or in advance here.

Employees who are interested in purchasing reserved season tickets in the covered grandstands can do so here.

Please review your vehicle info on MyGFU

Thursday, August 2nd, 2018

Before undergraduate students start to arrive in a mere seven days, now would be a great time to log on to MyGFU and check your vehicle registration.

  • If you have a new car that isn’t listed, please email Nadine Kincaid with all of the new vehicle’s pertinent information and which vehicle it replaces.
  • Can’t find your parking permit or need to purchase an additional one for another car? Bring $5 cash to the Campus Public Safety office and we will issue one on the spot.
  • Have yet to register anything? Please go on MyGFU and click on the vehicle registration link under “Staff Resources” and have your DMV registration slip handy to fill in the required information. Please put your campus PO box number in the “mailing address” line, as all permits will be sent via campus mail.
  • Don’t work at the Newberg campus but go there frequently for meetings? Please go ahead and register as well.
  • A gentle reminder: Your staff parking permit is for your use only and not for your child’s use. They must purchase their own parking permit and must park where their permit allows (not the staff lots).
  • If you work solely at the Portland Center and only come infrequently to the Newberg campus, just check in at the Campus Public Safety office for a temporary permit when in Newberg.

Questions? An out-of-the-box vehicle situation? Please contact Nadine at nkincaid@georgefox.edu.

Thanks!
