Gather for lecture on Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy

All are invited to a special presentation, “Reflections on Dr. King and the Beloved Community,” this Thursday, Oct. 31, at 4:15 p.m. in Canyon Commons. This lecture on the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. will be given by Scott Finnie, a professor at Eastern Washington University.

Finnie has been a faculty member in EWU’s Africana Education Program and history department since 1992 and currently serves as director of Africana studies and as director of race and cultural studies.

Get the shot, not the flu

Protect yourself and those around you by going to the flu shot clinic this Friday, Nov. 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Canyon Commons 101.

Getaflushot.com will bill both Regence and Kaiser directly for the flu shots they administer. Members will need their ID card/insurance information when filling out the form prior to receiving the shot.

RSVP for employee giving ice cream social

The Employee Giving Campaign is coming up next week! The campaign will take place Monday through Friday, Nov. 48!

One of our goals of the campaign is to celebrate generosity. We would like to invite you to celebrate with us by attending an ice cream social on Monday, Nov. 4, from 2:30 to 4 p.m.!

Join us in Canyon Commons 103 to build your own ice cream sundae with all of your favorite toppings. There will be a short presentation at 3 p.m. about the impact employee giving has on our students and our campus. We encourage you to bring a friend or two for this fun celebration!

25Live will be updated

On Friday, Nov. 1, 25Live, the system for reserving event locations on campus, will become 25Live Pro. This new version of 25Live features an improved user interface and a new “Event Form” which replaces the “Event Wizard.”

Plan to attend Hadlock Student Center’s Family Day

The Hadlock Student Center is hosting a Family Day on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We are excited to share this space with George Fox employees and their immediate family members!

If you plan to attend, please note:

  • Sandals and other open-toe shoes are not permitted.
  • Non-marking athletic shoes are required in the gym and fitness center rooms.
  • Children under the age of 14 are allowed in all areas of the HSC except the cardio/weight area.
  • Family members aged 14 to 17 can use the cardio/weight equipment when directly supervised by a parent or guardian.

Please take a few minutes in advance to complete the waiver on MyGeorgeFox for yourself and a separate form for each family member who will be attending.

Are you passionate about creating opportunities for our students to thrive? Are you grateful to sow into what God is doing in the lives of our students personally, academically and spiritually? The employee giving campaign is your opportunity!

“Grateful to GIVE so our students can THRIVE” is our theme this year. Giving you the opportunity to invest in an even greater way is our mission. Increasing our employee giving percentage, which ultimately provides increased opportunities for our students, is our goal.

The employee giving campaign will take place from Monday, Nov. 4, through Friday, Nov. 8. Each day of the campaign we will highlight a different topic. Check out the Daily Bruin during the campaign for more information about that day’s theme:

  • Monday Fund-day: Learn about the various funds you can support at our Ice Cream Social. Join us on Monday, Nov. 4, at any time between 2:30 and 4 p.m. in Canyon Commons 103. All employees are invited! RSVP here.
  • Tuesday Choose-Day: Do you have a heart for our grad or undergrad student population? Visit our employee giving page and choose the fund you’re most passionate about.
  • Wednesday Friends-Day: Tell a friend about all you’ve learned and join in the privilege of supporting our students through a financial gift.
  • Thankful Thursday: Take the opportunity to share with your coworkers about what you’re thankful for here at George Fox and how you can turn your thankfulness into action.

President Robin and Ruth Baker cordially invite employees to celebrate together at this year’s Christmas Concert, “Arise, Shine!”, on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 2:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium.

Employees are entitled to two complimentary tickets for Sunday’s matinee or a single ticket for any of the other performances (on Dec. 6 or Dec. 7). Following the concert on Sunday, employees are invited to a Christmas open house at the president’s home from 5 to 7 p.m. at 701 E. Franklin St. in Newberg.

You can select your concert tickets online at this link (be sure to select “GFU Employee” in the drop-down menu on the page that pops up after making your seat selection).

If selecting your complimentary seats for Sunday, you may disregard the note that states employees are only entitled to one ticket per event; however, you must still select “Okay, I will bring my ID to the door” in the drop-down menu.

Gather for Fall Faculty Lecture and Richter scholars symposium

All are invited to the Fall 2019 Faculty Lecture tomorrow (Tuesday) at 6 p.m. in Hoover 105. Our featured speaker is theatre professor Rhett Luedtke, recipient of the 2018-19 Faculty Achievement Award for Undergraduate Research and Scholarship. 

Join Rhett as he shares his vision for building bridges across religious, ethnic and racial divides through the power of theatre, in a lecture titled, “A Bridge Worth Building.”

Come early, between 5 and 6 p.m., and check out the work of our Richter student scholars at a symposium in the Hoover lobby. Students will present their research projects in a conversational poster format. Refreshments will be served.
