On Wednesday, June 16, the employee community will be observing a Day of Prayer. The two-fold purpose for this day is:
- To begin the new fiscal year and academic year prayerfully attentive to God’s direction
- To encourage the spiritual well-being of the employee community
Details:
- Employees are encouraged to spend their usual work hours on Wednesday, June 16, in prayer and spiritual retreat.
- Employees are welcome to enjoy their prayer retreat on campus, off campus, in their homes, or at an alternate site.
- The university pastors will provide an optional video which can be used at the beginning of an employee’s prayer retreat as well as a devotional to guide employees through the Day of Prayer.
During the Day of Prayer, employees are encouraged to:
- Have conversation with God about their work
- Pray for their colleagues, students and the university
- Attend to their personal soul care, talking with God about their own lives of faith, and experiencing the ministry of the Spirit
During the Day of Prayer, employees are discouraged from:
- Using this prayer retreat day for team meetings/in-services
- Doing other work (responding to emails, working on projects, meeting with people, etc.)
- Keeping their cell phones on/active
- Using the day as a vacation day. This is a soul care day, which may look a lot like a vacation day (a walk in the woods, journaling, reading, etc.) but should have an intentional spiritual formation focus and be directed by God.
If you have any questions, please contact the Office for Spiritual Life at spirituallife@georgefox.edu.

On May 18, the Oregon Health Authority issued new guidance for use of masks in the workplace. Under the updated guidance, people who are fully vaccinated will no longer be required to wear a mask indoors in most public settings where vaccination status is checked.
The new OHA guidance requires employers enforce the previous mask and physical distancing guidance unless employees provide proof they are fully vaccinated. If employees wish to be approved to work without a face covering or physical distancing, they may voluntarily provide vaccination documentation to HR confidentially by:
- Completing the Voluntary Employee Vaccination Record Form
- Checking your email for a Google Form receipt with the subject line “Voluntary Employee COVID Vaccination Record Formâ€
- Forwarding the Google Form receipt to your manager to confirm you have completed the process (the receipt does not include any private information or an image of the vaccination record).
This is completely voluntary, and we expect that many employees will continue to wear face coverings through the coming months for various reasons. However, if you are fully vaccinated and would like to work without a face covering, you now have this option. Please take the time to carefully review the FAQs so you are aware of what is and isn’t changing.
The university has worked hard to follow CDC and OHA guidance through the pandemic, but we recognize there will be a variety of personal perspectives on how our campus should transition back to pre-pandemic life. We ask that, as members of a Christ-centered community, we treat one another with kindness and grace particularly when our views differ from one another.
Be well and stay safe!
Questions? Contact the COT (cot@georgefox.edu) or HR (hr@georgefox.edu).
