Moms of young children gather for lunch on May 4 in Canyon Commons

Each semester, employees who are mothers of young/school-aged children, as well as expectant mothers, gather for an informal networking lunch. This semester’s lunch has been rescheduled for Wednesday, May 4, from noon to 1 p.m. in Canyon Commons 3.

Summer hours posted for Murdock Library

The Murdock Library will be closed on weekends starting this Saturday, April 30. Our summer hours will be Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The 24-hour space will remain open throughout the summer.

Join summer discussion group: ‘Resource Management’

All staff are invited to join a book discussion of William Massy’s Resource Management for Colleges and Universities starting this May and extending through July.

All participants will get a free copy of the book as well as some additional materials from other work by Massy. The group will get scheduled after May 1.

Volunteers still needed for commencement on April 30

We are still in need of several volunteers to serve as ushers at spring commencement next Saturday, April 30. Your enthusiasm and support are key to making this important day memorable for our graduates and their guests, and we cannot do it without you!

Please consider helping at one or both of the following ceremonies:

  • Wellness Enterprise Ceremony (1 p.m.): Two volunteers needed
  • Industrial Enterprise Ceremony (4 p.m.): Six volunteers needed

If you know family members or a recent George Fox graduate who would like to help, please sign them up as well! The sign-up sheet can be found here.

A $50 stipend or three hours of time off (with supervisor approval) is available for those employees not already scheduled to work. Non-employees who volunteer will receive a $50 gift card!

Make plans to participate in annual Health and Wellness Week in May

George Fox’s DPT program will host its annual Health and Wellness Week May 16-21. Events this year include a Mediterranean diet “taster” and educational session, and the “annual” PT exam (where you have measures of fitness tested as well as vital signs). You can also join in on one of our several fitness class offerings, or attend the spine care class.

University Recreation invites George Fox employees and their families to join us in the Hadlock Student Center for Family Night!

This event will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 29, and will include full access into the facility, various sports and games (including ladder golf, cornhole, giant Jenga, indoor soccer, and a bow and arrow competition), a movie, and more. Roped climbing on the tall rock wall will be available from 4 to 7 p.m.

Writer’s camp takes kids on a ‘Mission to the Moon’ this summer

The Oregon Writing Project Collaborative and Airway Science for Kids program is hosting a young writer’s camp, with the theme “Mission to the Moon,” this summer.

Students entering grades 5 through 8 are invited to join us the week of July 11-15. Sessions meet from 9 a.m. to noon each day in the Roberts Center. The cost is $125 (needs-based scholarships are available), and children of George Fox alumni receive a $40 discount.
