Homecoming Court Nominations

Join in this George Fox University tradition of Homecoming Court Coronation dating over 60 years! Stop by our table in the Bruins Den Friday Sept. 19, and Monday Sept. 22, from 10:45 a.m.- 1 p.m. to nominate 1 guy and 1 girl for each class to be Prince and Princess.

Voting for Court will take place online starting Wednesday Sept. 24 thru Sept. 26.

The senior Queen and King will be announced, along with the rest of the court at the Homecoming Coronation Dessert Reception, October 13 in Stevens Atrium at 7 p.m.. So mark your calendars!

Urban Outreach begins tonight!

Urban Outreach is launching tonight (Thursday)! It is similar to last year in that we provide students with an opportunity to engage in outreach to the larger urban centers in our area (i.e., Salem and Portland).

For this school year, through collaboration with Bridgetown Night Strike (Portland), Salem Leadership Foundation (Salem) and Dave’s Table (Portland), we are committed to allow students to serve and learn from the oppressed and marginalized. We hope students establish lasting relationships and encourage lasting change.

Brief overview

  • When? Beginning tonight (Sept. 18), weekly Thursday nights for fall and spring semester (Dave’s Table will begin on Sept. 26 and continue each Friday night)
  • Where?

    • For Thursday Portland location: Meet outside ASC offices at 5:30 p.m., back by 11 p.m.
    • For Thursday Salem location: Meet outside ASC offices at 5 p.m., back by 8 p.m.
    • For Friday night Portland location: Meet outside ASC offices at 5:30 p.m., back at 8:30 p.m.

80’s Dance this Friday

Get your neon and dance on this Friday, Sept. 19 at 8:30 p.m. in EHS! Free tank tops will be given to the first 100 lined up at the door and the first 50 that attend the volleyball game before. The best Instagram picture from the night will win their photo on a customized package of Jones soda. Be watching for the released hash tag on ASC social media!

We’re hosting a “Prospective Philosophers Pavilion Party” at 9 p.m. tonight (Wednesday) at the Canyon Fire Pit. Come enjoy s’mores as we explore the virtues of philosophy! The gathering is sponsored by the William Penn Honors Program.

Chapel opportunities this week

Please join us for chapel events this week on Tuesday and Wednesday! Chapel will be held in Bauman today (Tuesday) at 10:50 a.m., when “Shark” Hamilton (men’s basketball coach) will share about “Identity.” Chapel credit is available.

Shalom will be held on Tuesday at 9 p.m. in the Cap & Gown Room. Chapel elective credit is available.

On Wednesday, Sept. 17, chapel will be in Bauman Auditorium at 7 p.m., when Rusty St. Cyr will continue our “Unfolding Life” series through the book of Matthew. He will preach on Matthew 5, the Beatitudes. Chapel credit is available.

Seminary virtual fair is scheduled for tomorrow

Interested in International Justice Mission?

International Club sells handmade items as fundraiser for Kenyan children

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 23-24, the International Club will host a booth in the Bruin Den from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to raise funds for a Kenyan Sunday School/missions organization. There will be handmade headbands, bracelets, earrings, purses, handbags and dresses you can purchase or order.

Learn Chinese culture, language beginning Sept. 23

We are beginning our weekly Chinese lab on Tuesdays! For those of you who are interested in learning the culture and the language without a huge amount of commitment, this is it.

Tonight’s LACI lecture discusses Islam in America

Don’t forget to join us tonight (Monday) for the “Islam and the West” Liberal Arts and Critical Issues lecture featuring Kambiz Ghaneabassiri, associate professor of religion and humanities at Reed College. The session runs from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Hoover 105.

Ghaneabassiri will present “Islam in America,” in which he will provide an overview of the history of Muslims in America, from colonial times to the aftermath of 9/11. The same session is presented from 5 to 6 p.m.; however, it is recommended that the general public attend the evening session, if possible.
