Art and Design’s fashion show is Friday in EHS

You are invited to the Department of Art and Design’s Fashion Show: La Bellezza del Chiaroscuro. Join us at 8 p.m. tomorrow night (Friday) in the EHS Atrium.

Tickets are $5 for standing room and are available for purchase at the door; floor seats have been sold out. Proceeds from the event benefit Dress for Success.

Come watch students’ designs walk down the runway. Ticket purchase will include entry into the reception after the show in Hoover, featuring drinks and snacks and an opportunity to take photos with the designers.

C.S. Lewis expert from Oxford speaks on campus April 9

Save the date! On Thursday, April 9, scholar Jason Lepojärvi will present a lecture, “C.S. Lewis’s Famous Disagreement with Augustine on Love,” at 7:30 p.m. in Hoover 105.

Lepojärvi is a junior research fellow in theology at St. Benet’s Hall, Oxford, and a former president of the Oxford C.S. Lewis Society. Born to a Canadian mother and a Finnish father, he studied theology and philosophy at the University of Helsinki. More details about him can be found here. The lecture is sponsored by the Office of the President and the William Penn Honors Program.

Do you know a high school student who may be interested in the William Penn Honors Program? An honors program reception will be held immediately following the lecture. Additionally, a special visit day event will be held on April 10 during Bruin Preview.

Come to women’s basketball viewing party Friday

Our women’s basketball team is heading to Michigan for the Sweet 16, but that doesn’t mean the fun ends on campus! Swing by Hoover 105 between 2 and 4:30 p.m. this Friday, March 13, to watch the live feed of the Bruins’ game against Texas-Tyler University. As a bonus, ASC, student life and the president’s office are teaming up to provide snacks!

George Fox is looking for its 30th win of the season and a chance to advance to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III National Tournament. Should the Bruins win, they will play again Saturday at 4:30 p.m. A viewing party for that game will also be in Hoover 105, with doors opening 15 to 20 minutes before game time.

Bubble tea served during Tent City Thursday night

Do you like bubble tea? Do you like supporting fellow students? How about serve trips? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, then you’re in luck.

Tomorrow night (Thursday) during Tent City, the Summer Serve Romania team will be selling bubble tea on the quad for $2 per cup, with all proceeds going to the trip. We’ll be serving from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Even if you aren’t participating in Tent City, you can come and get some bubble tea!

Latino Heritage Club seeking Spoken Word performers

Chapel today features speaker from Haiti

Student Art Exhibit opens Thursday in both galleries

IDEA Center hosts Jobs in High Tech networking event March 18

Save the date Wednesday, March 18, when the IDEA Center continues its vision to introduce students to industry clusters with a Jobs in High Tech networking event from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Hoover 105.

Students of all majors are invited to learn about the vast career opportunities in the innovative and creative world that support the tech industry. The panel and subsequent networking time will focus on career paths that typically don’t come to mind when you think of digital humanities, user experience, computer-to-human interactions, branding of new products and positions that support the tech industry.

Organizations represented include Intel, Waggener Edstrom PR agency, Funnelbox, Salesforce Software, Code Oregon and others. We encourage you to attend as an opportunity to learn and network with professionals in a growing and incredibly creative and collaborative industry cluster.

Ted Talk and discussion hosted Thursday

Psi Chi, the honors psychology club, is hosting a Ted Talk and discussion on Thursday, March 12, from 5 to 6 p.m. in Hoover 211.

This month’s Ted Talk is given by a woman diagnosed with schizophrenia and is about her struggle to live a normal life despite this disorder. Pizza will also be served during the Ted Talk!
