Policy and Procedures for Driving Personal Vehicles on University Business (i.e., for Serve Day) …

Students and employees will be allowed to drive on university business if they have had a current valid U.S. state driver’s license for at least one year and are at least 18 years of age.

When driving a personal vehicle on university business, the driver’s personal insurance serves as the primary insurance and is the extent of the driver’s protection. Students and employees need to be comfortable with their own auto insurance coverage and limits and assume all risks and responsibility for transporting other individuals in their vehicle.

When an employee or student uses a personal vehicle on university business or if the university arranges the transportation for an activity or event and a student or employee is asked to transport others in their personal vehicle, that person/driver must be on the approved driver’s list maintained by Plant Services indicating the following:

• An acceptable motor vehicle driving record as defined in this policy
• Driver’s license number and expiration date (recorded as a part of the approval process)
• Completion of the online training provided by Plant Services
• Current personal automobile insurance including the insurance company name, policy number, and adequate limits (recorded as a part of the approval process) in the quiz
• When the university is not providing or arranging for transportation to an event or activity (i.e., the event begins at the designated location), the driver understands that she or he is assuming all risk and liability. Of course, it is still important to only drive and transport others when there is a good driving record, current valid driver’s license, and personal automobile insurance with sufficient limits.

In all cases, the driver/owner of the vehicle must follow all traffic laws and regulations and ensure that the personal vehicle is in good operating condition and safe to drive.

MEAL PLAN CHANGES FOR FALL 2015
Students who are eligible to do so may change their own meal plan in their MYGFU account through Sunday, September 6th, 2015.

After this date, students who wish to change their meal plan and are eligible to do so must email studentlife@georgefox.edu by Friday, September 11, 2015 at 5:00 pm.

In the email you must include your NAME and STUDENT ID NUMBER, along with your request.

Your eligibility will be confirmed prior to any changes being made.

CHANGES TAKE 24 HOURS TO BE ACTIVATED ON YOUR ID CARD

Once a change is made in MYGFU it takes 24 hours to be uploaded and activated on your ID card.

Changes made over the weekend are processed on Monday, with the change taking affect on Tuesday.

Miller will discuss how the spread of Western influences around the world has produced mixed outcomes, particularly regarding how many observers in the “majority world” perceive and react to Western involvement in national or regional issues and conflicts around the globe. The university community is invited to a series of “Turning the Page” sessions highlighting the Heritage Edition of the St. John’s Bible on campus. Beginning today (Friday) and each Friday through Oct. 16, Paul Anderson (Christian Studies) will speak about different sections of the Bible from 4 to 5 p.m. in the MLRC.

The Saint John’s Bible is the first completely handwritten and illuminated Bible to have been commissioned by a Benedictine Abbey (Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minn.) since the invention of the printing press. The Heritage Edition of The Saint John’s Bible is the full-size fine art reproduction of the original.

Learn to play piano
Interested in learning how to play piano? Check out MUSI 135 A and B, a piano class for beginners and intermediate-level students. Beginners are considered those with no previous lessons or a year or less of lessons as a child. Intermediate-level players are those with more than one year of lessons recently or two years of lessons as a child. If you’re not sure, you can always email the instructors.

Private lessons
Would you like to learn the piano but are not sure if you want to be in a class? Enroll in MUSA 105 PN for .5 credit. This is “Applied Piano,” which is a private lesson each week. No need to be a music major to enroll in applied piano. Questions? Contact Kenn Willson at kwillson@georgefox.edu

Keyboard Ensemble
A last opportunity for pianists (you will need at least 4-plus years of lessons). Enroll in Keyboard Ensemble, a course that puts two to four students together to work on one or two pianos. This is great fun for pianists to get a similar experience to bands, orchestras or choirs, but you only need to be able to play the piano.

If interested, you can enroll in MUSA 145 K (if you are at 18 credit hours but need to enroll in this ensemble, you can take it for “0” credit). This spring we will be putting together a “Monster Piano Concert” featuring six grand pianos on the Bauman stage, with organ. It’s great fun to prepare, and a big hit with the audience.
