Important info for home football game Saturday

Thursday, September 10th, 2015

The campus will look a bit different on Saturday as we expect to host around 3,000 guests for our first home football game of the year.

Things to make note of:

Entrances to the football game
There will be two entrances into the game and both are located in the Bauman parking lot, directly behind the stadium.

Wheeler Sports Center closed
The Wheeler Sports Center will be closed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. This means the basketball gym, racquetball courts and locker rooms will be closed. The Fitness Center will remain open for normal business hours, but you will need to enter through the hallway entrance located on the field level, toward the end of the building near the tennis courts. There will be security officers who will ask you where you are headed; just let them know that you are going to work out.

Bauman Walkway
The sidewalk located between the football stadium and Bauman will be closed. Please walk around the building and do not move the barricade.

Bauman Parking Lot
Be sure to move your cars out of the Bauman parking lot on Friday evening. This space will be dedicated to vendors, game day parking, and tailgating on Saturday. Be sure to stop by on Saturday and check out all of the yummy food vendors!

Barricades
If you see a barricade, it is there for a reason. Please do not move them, jump over them, crawl under them, or unlock them.

Circle Parking Lot
The circle parking lot near Wheeler will be closed for the day. This space is reserved for officials to park in. Officials will arrive as early as 8:30 a.m.

Sideline Passes
No one will be granted field access without a sideline pass. Sideline passes are issued to those who are required to work and/or have official business during the game.

Tickets
Students and staff can show their ID cards at the gate to get into the game.

We hope to see you at the game! What a great opportunity to come and show your school pride. Kickoff is at noon, and your Bruins will be taking on the University of Redlands. Last year for our first home game we had 3,659 fans in attendance. Let’s set a new record!

Questions? Contact Elise Trask at etrask@georgefox.edu.

Register your vehicle if you have yet to do so

Thursday, September 10th, 2015

If you haven’t done so, please register your vehicle immediately, as it will take one to two weeks for your permit to arrive, and you risk being ticketed for not having a permit on your vehicle. After you register, you will be receiving an e-mail with a link to print off a temporary permit. Please do this as soon as you receive the e-mail and place the temporary permit on your dashboard. The entire registration process takes less than five minutes, so please do it today if you haven’t done it yet.

You must begin parking immediately in the lot that your permit designates, and there is no student parking in the staff lots! A parking brochure will arrive with your parking permit. Until then, you can view it on the security services webpages or visit the security office and we can show you where your permit allows you to park.

Lots of hints and tips for registering your vehicle have been posted during the past month in the Daily Bruin announcements, so check those first before registering so you will have the proper information in front of you when registering.

If you live on campus, be sure to put your campus address and PO Box number in the “mailing address” line when registering. Commuters can either use their campus PO box number or their off-campus residence. Permits will not arrive in your campus PO box; you will need to sign for them at mail services if you indicated a campus address as the mailing address.

Questions or unique vehicle situation? Please contact security at 503-554-2090 during office hours.

Square1 Chapel elective

Thursday, September 10th, 2015

The Gospel. Worship. Fun. Square1 is a new completely student-led chapel elective (meaning you get credit) designed to get back to the simple, core elements of faith in Christ – to start “back at square one.” From this starting point, there will be a lot of variety week-to-week: guest speakers/musicians, different locations and crazy games.

Bring a Bible and wear clothes that you can move in! There will also be board game tables for those who shy away from crazy. Our first meeting will be today (Friday), in the amphitheater at 6 p.m. Square1 will be held in the Cap and Gown Room if it rains.

To stay updated, join the Facebook page “Square1″ or email Daniel McCleskey at dmccleskey13@georgefox.edu.

St. John’s Bible series continues today in MLRC

Thursday, September 10th, 2015

The university community is invited to a series of “Turning the Page” sessions highlighting the Heritage Edition of the St. John’s Bible on campus. The series continues today (Friday) and each Friday through Oct. 16. Paul Anderson (Christian Studies) will speak about different sections of the Bible from 4 to 5 p.m. in the MLRC. Today’s session features the Prodigal Son, the “Twin Towers,” and God’s grace and forgiveness.

The Saint John’s Bible is the first completely handwritten and illuminated Bible to have been commissioned by a Benedictine Abbey (Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minn.) since the invention of the printing press. The Heritage Edition of The Saint John’s Bible is the full-size fine art reproduction of the original.
