Mike Barrett, the television announcer for the Blazers, will be here and will bring colleagues working in public engagement, communications, basketball operations, and even chaplaincy. This Trail Blazers’ staff works closely together in a wide variety of areas, including marketing, management, Christian ministries, athletic training and more. Matthew J. Milliner, an assistant professor of art history at Wheaton College and a member of the Curatorial Advisory Board of the United States Senate, will present a free lecture on the Newberg campus titled “Toward 2017: Visualizing Christian Unity” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, in Hoover 105.
Milliner teaches across the range of art history, and his scholarly specialization is Byzantine and medieval art, with a focus on how such images inform contemporary visual culture. He has a PhD in art history from Princeton University and an MDiv from Princeton Theological Seminary.

Students who attend will have the opportunity to be entered into a $500 drawing that will be applied to the program fee or an airline ticket when they participate in a George Fox-approved study abroad program.​ Students will also be eligible for four $25 gift certificates to either the Coffee Cottage or Newberg Bakery.

This week’s Professional Networking Seminar/ArtTalk lecture features Jiseon Lee Isbara, a sculptor and installation artist from Portland. Jiseon is head of the fibers department at Oregon College of Art and Craft. Her current body of work is a personal observation and artistic interpretation of her life as an artist, teacher, wife, mother and immigrant.

He will speak on “Upgrading Health Care in Africa: Lessons from Ebola for the Future of Missions” from 5 to 6 p.m. and again from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Hoover 105.
Ebola shocked the world and led to a scramble to make up for years of neglect in health services in three countries in West Africa. Fountain will discuss this and similar outbreaks in East Africa and identify new roles for Christian missions. His presentation is the fourth in the “Majority World and the West” series.

Many congregations engage in some sort of social service delivery that addresses issues of poverty. However, what they do and why they do it varies greatly. Mark Mulder, an associate professor of sociology at Calvin College, will speak at George Fox to specifically examine the inability of white evangelicals to see and understand structural injustice as a perpetuating cause of poverty in the United States.
