Finals week is approaching fast – and so is the time to sell back your textbooks. If you have any unwanted books that the bookstore can’t buy back, feel free to donate them to any of our Better World Book collection bins around campus.
We take all books. They will be donated, help raise funding for global literacy, or get repurposed. All books will stay out of landfills. The collection bins will be located in the Minthorn Mail Room, outside the Bruin Store and in the SUB.
Questions? Contact Heather Harney at hharney12@georgefox.edu.

Do you love to serve? Does volunteering for the larger vision of Martin Luther King Jr. inspire you? How about in Portland?
Your chance to get involved with our neighboring community is finally here, with the opportunity to be a part of MLK Day of Service in Portland!
MLK Day of Service is a day we are able to live into this vision Dr. King had for serving and justice. Though one day of service is never enough to fully celebrate him or what he stood for, we hope you are able to join us for this day of service and recognition of Dr. King.
MLK Day of Service takes place on Monday, Jan. 18. You can register and find more information about what the day will look like here.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email spirituallife@georgefox.edu.

A group of George Fox students are doing their part to feed members of the Newberg community as the weather gets colder. Teaming up with Subterra, a restaurant in town, students are helping create a community “Group Soup” program that both embodies community spirit and promotes the arts.
Students in Mark Terry’s ceramics classes will create bowls that will be filled with soup and served with home-baked breads in Francis Square in downtown Newberg during First Friday Art Walks in February, March and April. Next week (Dec. 13-19), Subterra is donating 25 percent of its gross proceeds during lunchtime as seed money to buy raw product and launch the program.
Downtown meals will be given away at no cost, or on a pay-what-you-want model for those wishing to donate to the future of the program. Ceramic bowls will be available for purchase, with proceeds dedicated to sustaining the program, or patrons can get their soup in disposable bowls.
Art Walks are held from about 5 to 8 p.m. the first Friday of each month with the exception of January.
For more information, contact Terry at mterry@georgefox.edu.

The Athletic Training Student Club is teaming up with the Newberg Fire Department to assist with its annual toy drive. Each year, the Newberg Fire Department organizes a “Toy & Joy” program by collecting toys and cash donations. The money generated is used to purchase toys for local children in need.
The need for toys increases each year, yet the program funds do not always keep up with that increased demand. We invite you to help us give local children in need a wonderful Christmas!
Here are the details:
- We will have a table set up prior to and during the men’s basketball game this Saturday, Dec. 12 (3 to 5:30 p.m.).
- Donations can be dropped off in Dana Bates’ office in Wheeler.
- Donations can be toys priced around $15 suitable for kids up to 15 years old; cash donations are also accepted.
- The fire department will not accept any dangerous or weapon-like toys, nor will they accept electronics.
Thanks for supporting this cause!
Questions? Contact Matthew Alvarez at malvarez13@georgefox.edu.
