George Fox is again getting involved in a special needs prom this year! Newberg Christian Church is looking for volunteers to be buddies to individuals who have special needs as we help give them a prom night they may never experience otherwise.

The “Night to Shine” prom will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, at the church. It will include dinner, limo rides, hair and makeup, shoeshines, karaoke and, of course, lots of dancing! There will be an informational meeting at Newberg Christian Church on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 10 a.m. The church is located at 2315 Villa Road.

The music of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Poulenc, Brahms, Schubert, Gershwin and Vandall will be featured in the university’s 10th annual Bösendorfer Concert Series at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday) in Bauman Auditorium. Performing the pieces will be 18 pianists – comprised of current students, George Fox alumni and pupils from music professor Kenn Willson’s private piano studio.

All employees and students are entitled to one free ticket. Additional tickets are $12 for general admission, $8 for seniors and alumni, and $6 for students and children under 12. All tickets are reserved seating and are available at this link or at the University Box Office by calling 503-554-3844.

Among the pieces to be performed at the “Monster Piano Concert” are Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, Beethoven’s March Op. 45 #1, Brahms’ Eight Waltzes Op. 39, Gershwin’s 3 Preludes, Poulenc’s Elegie, Mozart’s Sonata for Two Pianos in D major, K.448, and Schubert’s Military March Op. 51 #1.

The culmination of the evening comes when 12 players simultaneously perform two Robert Vandall pieces on six pianos: Ballad and Jubilation! (Tocatta).

The Latino Heritage Club is looking for performers for the next Spoken Word event in Hoover 105 on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 8:30 p.m.

The theme will be “In the Mirror.” Think about the things that you tell yourself in the mirror. You can interpret this how ever you’d like. It can have a humorous or serious tone.

The IDEA Center is hosting a “Be Found February 30-Day Challenge” to any student who is serious about landing an internship or job this summer.

Internships are the new entry-level job, and the new norm is that college grads need at least two internships before landing a full-time professional job offer. Throughout “Be Found February,” we will offer workshops and career events catered to landing your 2016 summer internship or job.

For the next 30 days, just invest a few hours each week coming to our workshops. After the 30-Day Challenge, you’ll turn the application process from several stressful hours to only 15 minutes. You’ll also have a game plan of the internship/job search process, and you’ll be ready to apply and interview for opportunities at a moment’s notice.

Take the challenge and bring your lunch to the Cap and Gown Room from noon to 1 p.m. over the next four Mondays.

Senior citizens, board games, fun conversations and potential friendships! Interested in connecting with the elderly folk? Come to the Fox and Friendsview game night this Thursday, Feb. 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the Terrace Room at Friendsview Retirement Community, the building right across the street from the track.

We’ll meet in the Bruin Den around 6:20 p.m. to walk over there together. Feel free to bring your favorite board/card game. Refreshments will be provided.

The Wineskin, George Fox’s student literary and art magazine, is now accepting submissions for the Spring 2016 issue. If you are a writer, photographer or artist, this is a great chance to get your work published in a journal.

This issue’s theme is “Seeing and Being Seen.” If you need an inspiration (or a challenge) for your submission, you are free to start there. We are asking for:

• Fiction and non-fiction prose: must be a stand-alone piece (no book excerpts; 1,500-word limit)
• Poetry
• Photography: Include title and send as a 300 dpi image
• Art: Include 300 dpi image (The Wineskin is happy to take a quality image for you; email for more information)

Please submit your best work by Friday, Feb. 19. Winners of each category will receive a $25 gift card of their choice.

We have become aware of a local scam involving job postings. Jobs are being posted for a local company using a local address, but the phone number isn’t local.

If you see local job postings and they request via email for you to cash checks for them and then to send the money back to them, it is bogus and a scam, as the checks are fake. If the email says “.org” or “.gov” at the end, it is not a company.

If you have come across anything like this while job hunting, please contact your local police department with the particulars, and never cash checks, give out your Social Security number, or other identifying information.
