Annual Innovative Industry Idea Challenge returns

Tuesday, February 9th, 2016

The College of Business is hosting its second annual Innovative Industry Idea Challenge (i3). This team competition will give you an outlet for challenge, competition, business innovation and a full day of collaborating with industry experts from Intel, Ivey Performance Marketing, Hewlett-Packard and more! The grand prize for the winning team will be $500 and your names commemorated on a trophy.

Teams must consist of six to eight George Fox students, with one member being from the College of Business. Each team will have an industry expert as a mentor and five hours to collaborate with each other to come up with an innovative business idea for a randomly assigned industry.

No outside prep is needed, but bring what you think you might need to succeed. Single members who do not have a team may sign up at the College of Business offices to be put on a random team.

Registration opens Thursday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. and closes Saturday, Feb. 20, at noon. Visit our website for more information.

Employment scam alert

Tuesday, February 9th, 2016

We want to remind you to be discerning when you are seeking employment opportunities online. With the Internet connecting us to all corners of the world, scams are present.

We would like to remind you to never send money to any employment opportunity. A genuine organization would never ask for payment.

Also, do not complete a W-2 form sharing your Social Security number unless you have met your new employer face to face.

Bruin Careers is a service that George Fox provides to help employers connect to students, as one of our priorities is to assist students in finding employment that supports your career aspirations. The IDEA Center staff reads each posting carefully, but we recently had a scam slip through our system as Internet thieves are using new tactics posing as actual Newberg businesses.

We do not have access to your correspondence with employers, so we caution you to be discerning if you receive emails that do not have proper English or grammar.

If you ever have any questions or suspicions, please come to the IDEA Center and ask to talk with a Career Coach and we will help you vet the organization or company.
