Applications for the 2017 Winter Serve SpiLgrimage to Nepal and Spring Serve Spilgrimage to Haiti with the university’s French department are open!

Nepal (Winter 2016-2017): We will be working with Evangelical Friends Mission and partnering with missionaries that create and distribute dignity packs for women and children who are experiencing marginalization, especially after the earthquake in Nepal. Applications are reopening and can be found at the SpIL website under “Get Involved” and “Service + Ministry” or by following this link.

Mr. Darwin’s Tree, the acclaimed British one-man play about the life and work of Charles Darwin, will be performed at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, in Wood-Mar Auditorium. Produced by Scholarship and Christianity in Oxford (SCIO) and sponsored by George Fox’s science and religion clubs, the play aims to enhance the conversation on science and religion.

Written by noted playwright and director Murray Watts (The Miracle Maker, KJB: The Book that Changed the World, The Dream) and starring British film, TV and theatre actor Andrew Harrison (Dorian Gray, Miss Marple, Beyond Narnia), Mr. Darwin’s Tree presents a very human and very real Charles Darwin, one who wrestled with the challenges that his theories posed for traditional beliefs.

It also presents Darwin’s wife, Emma, as an intelligent and articulate representative of Christian faith. In doing so, the play rejects the “straw man” effigies of Darwin presented by both his extreme protagonists and antagonists, providing the opportunity for lively engagement, thoughtful conversations and fresh explorations.

The performance will mark the play’s first tour of the U.S. since it first premiered in 2009 at Westminster Abbey in England. The April 21 show will be followed by a reception and discussion with the playwright and leading campus academics.

Come support our theatre students for the final performances of the spring drama The Balkan Women, directed by senior student Cambria Herrera.

Performances are in Wood-Mar Auditorium Thursday through Sunday, April 14-17. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. with the exception of the Sunday matinee (April 17), scheduled at 2 p.m.

Tickets are free for students for the Thursday show. Employees are entitled to one complimentary ticket. Please bring your student or employee ID to the door when you attend the show. Additional tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for seniors 65 or older, and $6 for George Fox students and children under 12.

Tickets may be picked up/purchased at the Bruin Store or one hour prior to each show in Wood-Mar Auditorium. They are also available online at theatre.georgefox.edu. A synopsis of the show is also online.

Voter pamphlets for the Oregon primary election are now available on the counter in the hallway of Mail Services (North Street Annex) and also on a counter in the hallway of the SUB Post Office. Please feel free to take one of the pamphlets which are provided by the state of Oregon for assistance in casting your vote by mail ballot. The Oregon primary election will be on May 17.

Mail Services is an unofficial drop site for all Oregon ballots. Arrangements have been made with the Yamhill County Elections Office for us to offer this service. We accept any Oregon ballot (any county), and there is no postage necessary. The deadline for this drop-off site is 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17. All out-of-state ballots must be mailed with postage.

With the current controversy surrounding the high costs of a college education, have you ever wondered what it all means? Come see the George Fox speech and debate team host a public debate on the costs and benefits of free tuition tomorrow (Wednesday). The MLRC and Portland Center libraries are now accepting debit and credit cards to purchase print cards. No more digging in your pockets or wallet for that extra change to purchase a print card. You can now purchase the print card you need with your debit/credit card.

The IT Service Desk can not only accept your debit or credit card, but Apple and Android Pay is also available. So if you need a new ID card, power adapter or to pay for those unexpected repair parts you will no longer need to provide cash or a check. Just put it on the card.

We will continue to accept cash and checks through June 30, 2016. Beginning July 1, 2016, these locations will only accept your electronic forms payment (debit/credit/touch pay) and ID cards will no longer be charged to student accounts.
