On Monday, Jan. 9, the Stevens Center elevator is having some maintenance done by KONE, with the work centering on the functionality of a “Hold†button necessary for IT employees to move equipment to the third floor.
The elevator will be out of service for short periods of time throughout the day, but should still be able to accommodate people as necessary.

If your financial aid has not disbursed to your student account yet, please be sure you are ready. Are you fully registered (not including wait-listed classes) and have your “confirmed” for spring? Both of these impact aid disbursement!
Expecting excess aid for books and living expenses? Have you granted Financial Aid Permissions so aid can cover all your charges? Have you signed up for Direct Deposit? These both impact our ability to process your charges, issue refunds quickly and clear account holds.
Questions? Contact Jenny Getsinger at jgetsing@georgefox.edu.

Anderson Campbell and Steve Sherwood of the College of Christian Studies invite you to help celebrate the release of their book Praying for Justice: A Lectionary of Christian Concern, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Chapters Books and Coffee (701 E. 1st St.).
Campbell and Sherwood believe God is greater than any politician, political system or nation, and that now is the time for people of faith to act in tangible, costly and courageous ways. The book, written in response to the troubling rhetoric and division of the 2016 election season, calls Christians to live into wisdom, prudence, compassion, humility and discernment – and to pursue the heart of God’s kingdom vision: a society in which all are valued as individuals bearing God’s image.
The book invites readers to use each day’s verse as a meditation or reflection for that day and each week’s quotation as an examination of the ways in which their life images God’s redemptive justice in the world.
Books will also be for sale in the College of Christian Studies ($18); 100 percent of the net proceeds will go to Church World Service to aid in its work of resettling refugees and advocating for immigrant and refugee rights in the United States.
For more information, contact Paula Hampton (phampton@georgefox.edu) or go to barclaypress.com.

Although the Newberg and Portland campuses are currently ice and snow-free, that might not be the case this weekend, as a wintry mix of weather is forecast for Saturday and Sunday before it turns to rain. As you return to school or work, please pay careful attention to your state’s Department of Transportation website and road cams to check the road conditions.
Many mountain passes have been requiring chains or traction tires, or have been closed due to adverse weather and travel conditions (I-5 in the Siskiyous). Here are the regulations regarding usage of chains in the state of Oregon.
The tripcheck.com website in Oregon is extremely helpful to view the actual mountain passes through the provided webcams. The CalTrans website also has webcams, as does the WashDot website. If you are traveling from central or eastern Oregon via Highway 20, please be advised that even though chains may or may not be required depending on when you travel, the road is plowed but is icy and rutted.
As always, you need to be prepared for winter driving conditions, and at a minimum should have the following
- Chains and something to kneel on when installing them
- One gallon of water per person
- High-energy food like trail mix, granola bars, etc.
- Several flashlights
- A mirror to signal for help if you run off the road
- Flares
- An ice scraper and de-icer
- Blankets
- Warm coats/hat/gloves
- A shovel
- Kitty litter or bird seed for traction should you become stuck.
A cell phone charger that works off the car’s battery is also recommended should you become stranded or delayed. A reflective vest is also highly recommended if you are traveling at night and have to stop to install chains.
Travel during the afternoon if at all possible when it is the warmest, and be prepared for slow traffic traveling at 20 to 30 mph over the mountain passes. If you are not a confident driver in snow or ice, then take public transportation back to school and retrieve your car at spring break when travel conditions will hopefully be much better!
Be safe!

Students: The parking map was adjusted over Christmas break, so feel free to download a new copy here. Please keep a copy in your car for easy reference; the highlights are more parking areas for commuters and some adjustments to Resident West parking. These changes take effect Monday, Jan. 9, so be sure to view the new map before arriving back on campus.
If you moved from one side of the campus to another over break, or moved off-campus, you will need a new parking permit. Please scrape off your old one and bring it to the security office to make the required no-charge permit switch.
If you switched cars over break, you need to do the same thing and bring the new vehicle’s DMV registration slip to the security office to register and get a new parking permit (again, no charge).
If you are bringing back a vehicle and weren’t registered last fall, go on MyGFU now and register it with your DMV registration slip in front of you. Permits take one to two weeks to arrive, so be sure to use your campus or off-campus address for the “mailing address” portion of the registration process. The cost for spring semester is $60, as permits are billed per semester.
Questions? Call 503-554-2090 during business hours or email Nadine Kincaid at nkincaid@georgefox.edu.

Campus buildings will be locked until the morning of Jan. 3 for the safety of employees working this week. Please bring your ID card and office keys to campus to access your work spaces if you are working this week.
The quad side card-lock door of Stevens will remain unlocked Wednesday through Friday, and also on Jan. 2 during business hours due to students needing to pay their bills and the arrival of admissions guests. Other buildings on campus, including Wheeler, will be card-lock access only. Please make arrangements to meet your guests at an entry door and do not prop open any doors, as that puts the entire building at risk.
Please contact Nadine Kincaid at 503-554-2090 or nkincaid@georgefox.edu if you have concerns or an out-of-the-box situation.
